There's one reason, and one reason only, that the Left has its proverbial guns aimed at Sydney Sweeney: she's not one of them. Or, at least, she isn't publicly one of them. If Sweeney came out tomorrow and endorsed Gavin Newsom for president in 2028 or opposed AI data centers, the Left would do an about-face on her so quickly it would make our heads spin.
But the reason people like Sweeney has less to do with her beauty and more to do with her attitude, specifically towards her haters. When some harpy female journalist tried to get Sweeney to apologize for her jeans ad, the look Sweeney gave her could have curdled fresh milk. The latest controversy involves Sweeney making bank doing provocative ads for Novig, a sports betting prediction site. For some reason, the same people who applaud children's drag story hours and so-called "pride" parades featuring nude people are suddenly, deeply offended by a nude female body.
So much for female empowerment.
The same critics also worried that Sweeney's ads could damage women's sports, so I ask: Have you seen the WNBA lately? No one has damaged women's sports more than a league that can't define what a woman is and goes out of its way to ostracize, punish, and foul the two women who make the game worth watching: Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham. It also hasn't escaped my notice that the Venn diagram of those pearl-clutching over women's sports and those who think "transwomen" should be able to compete is a circle.
Sweeney doesn't need me to defend her, of course. She just proved she's perfectly capable of doing that herself. In fact, she dropped the social media equivalent of a nuclear bomb on her critics. Instead of issuing a statement or apologizing, Sweeney posted pics of athletes who have also posed nude.

Beauty and brains. What a combo.
No one complained when Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, and Caroline Wozniacki posed nude in various publications. Those images were seen as empowering for both women and women's sports. Not a soul suggested they would make Americans take women's sports and female athletes less seriously. Anyone who did criticize them was told to shut up, because they were a misogynistic bigot, if I recall correctly.
So what changed?
Well, we all know Megan Rapinoe is an outspoken leftist, as is Sue Bird. Serena Williams and Ronda Rousey are — if not outright left-leaning — definitely not Trump supporters. Rousey has said she would vote for Bernie Sanders and Williams opposed Trump's anti-DEI efforts. Wozniacki is Danish, so she gets a pass. At the end of the day, this is yet another example of it's (D)ifferent when they do it.
While we can speculate on Sweeney's political leanings, we have no concrete proof of them. That drives the Left absolutely insane. If you are famous, or a woman, or a minority, you belong to the Democrat Party. You owe them your votes and your allegiance. Even if you're not an outright Trump supporter, you are still a traitor and, therefore, a political target.
That's why they lose their minds every time Sweeney does something. She's not obedient, so they must destroy her. They do the same thing with J.K. Rowling, who, as we all know, is actually a liberal but objects to the usurpation of women's rights by the trans movement. So even though Rowling is one of them, her dissent on one issue makes her persona non grata. The Left always tells us they want strong, independent women. But the second a strong, independent woman doesn't bend the knee to their ideology, those women are a problem to be dealt with, knocked down a peg or two, or silenced.
Unfortunately for the Left, they have a bad habit of picking the wrong women to target. Rowling has more money than God and legions of adoring fans. The Left has failed to intimidate Rowling into compliance. Sweeney is no different. She's also got a growing and loyal fan base, and she's not afraid to fire back at her hypocritical opponents.
