The cast of "Guardians of the Galaxy" have released a letter in defense of their now fired director James Gunn. Gunn, who directed the first two "Guardians of the Galaxy" films, was dismissed by the Disney and Marvel studios for a series of controversial tweets he published 10 years ago. In those tweets, Gunn joked about rape and child pedophilia. He has since deleted the messages and apologized.
“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” the Walt Disney Company explained.
Now, the stars of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" universe, including household names like Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel, said that while of course they do not support Gunn's old, inappropriate tweets, they can speak highly of Gunn's current character. They rejected the current "mob mentality" that has inundated culture and believe he deserves the chance at redemption.
Actress Selma Blair, who was in the Marvel movie "Hellboy," also tweeted her support for Gunn, before leaving the social media platform. She started a petition on Change.org to get Gunn his job back.
"This man is one of the good ones,” she said.
