GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, who took the stage after Herman Cain at the Values Voter Summit on Friday, seemed to know he had a tough act to follow.
He wasted little time tying himself to the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO, who gave perhaps the best-received speech of the day to a crowd that spilled out of a ballroom of the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington.
“The elite media several weeks ago said this is now a two-person race,” Mr. Gingrich said, referring to a contest between Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. “Herman and I decided they may be right, but they got the wrong two people.”
It’s unclear if the audience agreed. After Mr. Cain finished speaking, many of those who had been standing, along with some cameramen, stepped into the hall.
