Democrats’ desperation to pass a federal election takeover has reached a fever pitch. The latest proof: The left is recruiting Hollywood elites to scare the American people into undermining our elections.

We all know why Democrats are desperate. A few weeks back, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) publicly refused to vote for the so-called “For The People Act.” His exasperated colleagues know this means almost certain death for their bill, which would give D.C. more control over elections and all but guarantee liberal victories. But they’re not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Enter: singer Katy Perry and actor Orlando Bloom. Democrats have teamed up with them in a last-ditch effort to push their bill.

Perry and Bloom released a video yesterday that pictures them in a future, post-apocalyptic America, where society has been destroyed because our generation failed to pass the Democrats’ election takeover bill. “Democracy is dead,” they warn, because “voter suppression ran wild all over America.” After taking a not-so-subtle dig at Manchin, the ad ends with a frenzied plea for Americans to “call your senator now!”—presumably to tell them to vote for the bill.

The Democrats get an A for effort. But they get an F for truth. The Perry-Bloom performance is both pathetic and insulting. It assumes the American people aren’t smart enough to see through the Democrats’ false alarms.

The Hollywood elites echo the claim Democrats have been making for months—that their “For the People Act” will “save democracy.”  It won’t.

Their bill would undermine democracy by stripping power from states and allowing D.C. politicians to control elections. It would make elections less secure by mandating fraud-prone voting practices, such as ballot harvesting. Lastly, it would give federal dollars to political candidates and help ensure liberal victories at the ballot box.

The good news: The Democrats’ latest attempt to distract America from these facts won’t work—because Americans care more about protecting the integrity of their elections than bowing to the demands of celebrities. And fear of liberals in Washington running local elections paints a scarier picture than Perry and Bloom do.

This Hollywood spectacle is just another out-of-touch effort by the Democrats to impose their values on the country. It also begs the question: Why do celebrities think Americans want to hear their thoughts on politics when most can’t even sit through their award shows anymore?

Maybe one day the Democrats will wake up and face the truth: The “For the People Act” is a bad bill that can’t stand up under the weight of its own flaws. But they probably won’t. That’s why it’s crucial that all Americans stand up for policies that secure our elections and ensure this federal election takeover doesn’t pass.

If it fails, American democracy wins—despite what desperate Democrats and fear-mongering celebrities say.
