The leak of the draft opinion from the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Center, which overturns Roe v. Wade, brings out the true nature of the abortion movement. Recent actions show that it is not “pro-choice” but radically “pro-abortion.”

A terrorist abortion group calling itself Jane’s Revenge claims responsibility for recent violence against at least 13 pro-life pregnancy centers. More is expected.

Pro-life centers offer free-of-charge services to empower mothers to choose life instead of abortion. Some services offered are ultrasound confirmation of pregnancy, STI testing and treatment and referrals for low-cost prenatal care. Free material resources provided by pregnancy centers include baby clothes, formula, cribs, baby accessories, maternity clothes, assistance with living expenses, parenting programs, post-abortion support resources, referrals for adoption services and ongoing counseling. Pregnancy centers do not provide abortion or referrals for abortion.

According to a 2020 report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute in Washington D.C., these life-affirming agencies number over 2,700 nationwide. In 2019, their free services were valued at more than $266 million.

It would seem logical that all should support the charitable work of these pro-life agencies. However, this is not the case.

Vandalism and violence against pro-life centers, including the use of several firebombs, have occurred in numerous areas: Portland, Oregon; Anchorage, Alaska; Vancouver, Washington; Gresham, Oregon; Eugene, Oregon; Buffalo, New York; Asheville, North Carolina; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and many more.

The Buffalo clinic was firebombed, destroying three medical ultrasound machines – a financial loss of nearly $100,000. Its executive director has received death threats and has had to move his family as a result.

In Oregon, centers run by First Image were hit twice. The first incident involved graffiti and broken windows. The second attack included an incendiary device and fire that caused more than $15,000 in damage.

Pregnancy centers around the nation are now receiving letters with no return addresses containing the message: “If abortion is not safe then neither are you.” Despite escalating threats, these centers continue to provide long-term relationships and essential resources to those in need.

Jane’s Revenge has announced that these attacks will continue nationwide if Roe is overturned. The group has called for a “night of rage” when the Dobbs decision is announced. It is expected that many more pro-life centers will be vandalized.

If one is honestly “pro-choice,” he or she should have no problem with the work of pro-life centers. True choice means that one has options. These centers provide resources that empower mothers to choose life. If the choice provided in Roe means anything, it certainly means that mothers considering abortion should have the right to choose life. This is what pro-life pregnancy centers provide.

The genesis of these attacks began in 1982 when the New York offices of Planned Parenthood launched a national campaign to shut down the work of the newly energized pro-life pregnancy centers. The line of attack was (and continues to be) false accusations that the centers are fraudulent and deceptive and that they illegally practice medicine.

Legislative attempts in the 1980s were made to curtail pregnancy center work. Pro-abortion attorney generals initiated efforts to shut them down. All such efforts failed. Despite such attempts, pregnancy centers have grown stronger, existing in every community.

In the 2018 NIFLA v. Becerra ruling, the Supreme Court decided that the state of California could not force pro-life centers to promote abortion through the posting of signs that provided information on how to obtain an abortion. Despite such a stinging rebuke, efforts continue to close down pro-life centers. They are now beginning to take a violent turn.

So why are these charitable agencies being violently attacked? The answer is obvious. Jane’s Revenge and other such groups are not pro-choice but pro-abortion. To them, abortion is a sacred rite to be protected at all costs.

Where are the leaders in the Democrat Party to speak out against such violence? So far, they remain unseen. This is not surprising for a pro-abortion party.

Where is President Biden to speak out against such dastardly deeds?  Nowhere to be seen. This is not surprising for a pro-abortion president. Where is Attorney General Garland to launch FBI protection for these centers? So far, he has done nothing. This is not surprising for a pro-abortion attorney general.

The work of pro-life pregnancy centers will continue to expand in the post-Dobbs and post-Roe era. Their life-affirming efforts will determine America’s ultimate direction. Sadly, we can anticipate that hostility to their work will continue.

Which side will the American public stand for? Our nation must choose, either between the side of life – as represented by the pregnancy center movement – or the side that promotes violence and death, including the bloody rite of abortion.
