Trans Treatment and Trouble With the Truth

Proponents of transgender ideology got something of a gut punch following the October 10, 2025, study from the University of Buckingham showing, “trans and queer identities are in decline among young Americans.” If they thought the nearly 50 percent drop in transgender identification among college students over a few years was bad, the news from the Westchester County, New York, Supreme Court is worse.

A jury there awarded 22-year-old Fox Varian $2 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit against her former psychologist and surgeon after she underwent “gender affirming care,” which included a double mastectomy when she was 16 years old.

The details of this three-week long trial are unclear right now. The court placed under seal the transcripts from the case so there is more to be learned. But according to reporter Benjamin Ryan, who attended the entire proceeding and claims to have obtained hundreds of documents prior to the trial, we will know more in the days ahead. Ryan is no right-wing gadfly. His reporting has appeared in publications ranging from The Atlantic and The Nation, to the Village Voice and the New York Post. He’s a serious independent newsman.

The implications of this jury verdict are considerable. For many years, we’ve been told that so-called gender affirming care is vital to the health and well being of young people taken in by transgender ideology. Now, medical professionals have been successfully sued for malpractice by a detransitioning adult who grew out of her adolescent naiveté.

There's been a rising number of people detransitioning in recent years and it will be intriguing to monitor this trend. Some people detransition because they realized they made a terrible mistake when they were younger and want to correct the error. That is good and healthy. But at the risk of sounding cynical, there is now an additional incentive: money.

There is a great deal of money involved in the gender dysphoria business. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry expected to grow to more than $65 billion over the next nine years. Now, a number of people have been sued for medical malpractice and that number will probably grow. Their pockets are deep and Fox Varian has successfully pulled out some of their profits.

This is not to suggest that Varian was motivated by greed. She clearly felt misled when she was a teenager and sought damages for the irreversible surgical mutilation she suffered at the hands of those treating her at the time. How many others have endured such tragic surgical and chemical procedures is unclear, but it’s likely that some - perhaps many - were also deceived into gender affirming treatments and may now seek financial damages. Varian’s case not only opens the door for future jury awards, it sends a chill across the entire industry.

Big Trans is a lucrative business, but so is Big Law. There’s a lot of money to be made filing civil torts. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimated the cost of lawsuits to be more than half a trillion dollars in 2022 and if trial lawyers can find a new revenue stream, they are apt to pursue it.

But far more important than any monetary award is that Varian has come to learn the truth. Transgender ideology is evil. Consider how it evolves over time. It begins when a person envies the physical characteristics of the opposite sex. The envy grows to the point that people covet those characteristics and start to outwardly mimic them. They and the culture then promote the deceit that they’re something they are not, and many slander those who disagree with them as bigots or transphobes. It culminates in demonstrating pride over their deception and demands that others adopt it.

“All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” These are the words of Jesus Christ, as recorded in Mark’s Gospel. The term ‘transgender’ does not appear in the Bible, but the actions that underlie and promote transgender ideology are explicitly rejected in scripture. As Jesus said of envy, coveting, deceit, slander and pride, they are evil that comes “out of the heart of man.” It all circles back to Genesis 1: “So God created man in his own image… male and female he created them.”

A New York State jury has now put a dollar amount on wrongly facilitating this evil. People are free to hold whatever opinion they wish on this issue, but the courts are making a pretty clear statement. The Varian case shows that misleading children and their parents into pursuing chemical or surgical treatments for gender confusion now comes at a cost. Legal and medical professionals will closely examine this case once the details emerge, and it’s likely to install a substantial governor on those who have trouble with the truth by promoting this ideology.
