The film Plantados tells the haunting truth: Cuban political prisoners beaten and broken by a communist regime, only to later find their torturers walking freely among them in Miami. That is not fiction—it is our reality.

For years, Miami-Dade residents have endured the shame of the Biden administration’s failure to use our immigration laws and national security infrastructure to protect us from the threat of dangerous foreign nationals. These aren’t just border security lapses—they are acts of betrayal against the law-abiding families who built this country and call South Florida home.

Cubans, Venezuelans, and anyone tied to oppressive communist regimes that sponsor and engage in anti-American rhetoric and terrorism should be denied the privilege to walk among our residents, enjoy the luxuries of a free society and market, and in some cases break our laws and collect government benefits.

We know the names. Chávez’s relatives. Maduro’s family. Regime enablers and profiteers. They’re tied to trafficking, corruption, and organized crime. Some have quietly slipped through the cracks of our system—allowed in by loopholes and apathy.

It hits close to home in Miami-Dade, but you needn’t be from here to know President Donald J. Trump is right to expel and deny entrance to these unwelcome bad actors. He’s using the tools at our disposal that Biden refused to touch. That’s not cruelty—it’s clarity.

This is not about turning our back on the persecuted. Quite the opposite. Those who have endured torture, imprisonment, or persecution for opposing communist tyranny deserve protection. We can and should offer streamlined, preferential treatment to genuine asylum seekers who bear the scars of oppression—while barring those who inflicted them. A free nation must know the difference.

The United States is not a sanctuary for tyrants. Not on my watch, and not under President Trump’s leadership. We finally have a commander-in-chief who’s not afraid to act.

We have the tools. Now we have the will. Let’s secure our country—and protect the communities that call it home.
