With yet another scandalous story surrounding the Senate candidate from Maine, Graham Platner, this latest seems to have finally sunk his chances. POLITICO has come out with another story of another woman detailing another case of sexual assault. The difference this time is that she is not a known conservative, so unlike Lyndsey Fifield’s story in The New York Times last month, there is not a ready-made outline to dispute her claims.
As a result, the Democrats who endorsed Der Oysterfuhrer are recanting their support, some are going so far as to delete their social media posts, and the media that ardently pushed him are trying in vain to sound morally upright today. They are failing. We need to keep these types of sources in mind going forward, given the way they have given this Nazi-sympathizing predator with the fabricated biography full support for months, despite his obvious glaring issues.
Prose & Contradiction – THE BULWARK
These arbiters of political morality are just a laughingstock.
Yes, the crew at the bad ship Bulwark is among the worst offenders going. Starting our list, but by no means being the worst example, is Sarah Longwell, who actually discusses this as a “moral matter.” She says such AFTER declaring that the only reason she and her dysfunctional crew are dumping Platner is due to him no longer polling well. When you say “I want to win” as the driving force of your ethics, that is the opposite of morality.

Their position shifts not because of wholly disqualifying character flaws like rape, or Nazi tattoos, but based solely on electability.

Low-Octane Gaslighting – THE BULWARK
It sounds like Tim is the one demanding an apology.
After months of selling this disaster to the public, both at his outlet and on MS NOW guest appearances, Tim Miller is visibly crestfallen, as he appears to realize he will be yoked to his supporting efforts.
Miller is noticeably dismayed at the reality that he invested in not just a losing horse, but one that will haunt him for some time.
I’m sorry but “we are taking time to reflect on the best path forward” is not an option on the table. Either it’s false and you campaign with vigor or it’s true and you get out / apologize to everyone you let down. https://t.co/PzCtMD5XEc

Gilded Reframe – THE NEW YORK TIMES
When an investigative reporter ignores what is being told.
Next we have Michelle Goldberg. She penned a lengthy piece stating how Platner is wholly unqualified to run now and needs to drop out immediately. But this comes after she went to Maine last October and was impressed by the energy behind his campaign, and ignored all of the rather blatant examples of his disturbing character:
I tried to convey what I saw: a campaign that was electrifying angry Maine voters. But I deeply regret that, impressed by Platner’s political charisma, I wrote that he was “nothing like the edgelord caricature I encountered online.” If anything, he seems to be significantly worse.
Well, that only took nine months to come around to seeing his obvious issues.
Graham Platner's campaign "has become a shameful catastrophe," our columnist Michelle Goldberg writes. "What’s left — besides finding a Democrat to run in his place — is figuring out what, if anything, can be learned from this debacle." https://t.co/LEFs9G1YdC

Jon, Jon—JON: We remember your enthusiasm for this mook fully.
Obama Bro Jov Favreau is another with a lot of problems due to his Platner pimping. He comes out today with a firm call for the candidate to step down and tries to sound like an upright and sternly guided soul on the matter.
Platner needs to drop out ASAP - these are awful, credible allegations.

Said on the pod after the (also credible) June NYT story that his biggest problem going forward would be credibility. It's now abundantly clear that he just hasn't been honest about his past and can't be… https://t.co/ZP1o1ITmRh
There are problems with his effort, however. He was regularly telling us, following scandal after scandal breaking out, that Platner was not just a good candidate, but one of high character and grand motivations.
He said this when most people who are not blinded by partisanship saw what a fiasco Platner was as a human.

This mop-up effort should taint their show permanently.
And we recall how his partner, Tommy Vietor, brought on Platner to rehabilitate things after the Nazi death camp tattoo controversy emerged. It was a clear attempt to clean the man’s reputation and get him elected.

DNC PR Firm – MS NOW
This is simply unreal to see.
So while most of the hyper-emotional press acquired some sanity and are backing/running away from Platner, on Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski went in a completely different direction. They brought on Adam Wren, the reporter who broke the latest Platner rape story, and instead of probing the reporter with the details of the victim, Mika launched into Wren in the most obtuse case of shooting the messenger.
She brought up “due process,” “what evidence do you have that connects this, literally?” and more. It was clear Mika wanted to challenge the veracity of his report, almost as if she was unaware of the stampede of politicians and journalists thundering away from Platner.
Morning Joe spends 5 minutes grilling Politico’s @adamwren for running a story on Platner’s ex accusing him of rape.
