The Only Way Through Is Through

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Clichés, like this column’s title, become clichés because time and experience have demonstrated that they are largely true. Look at the present situation. Donald Trump, in 2016, saved America from what the regime media, the Democrats, and far too many Republicans assured us was certain defeat at the hands of that ED-inducing monster Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit. There was the four-year interregnum of President Eggplant, where his puppeteers attempted to Maduro-ize America, but in 2024, we beat them and their morally and otherwise flexible candidate. We were facing the loss of our country – permanent oppression of us patriotic normal, perpetual economic malaise, gender deviance enshrined in law, mass crime, rampant fraud by NGOs and imported Third World hustlers, anti-white racism as government policy, and international disrespect by every commie/jihadist/just plain scuzzy potentate around the globe. They had decades to set up their defenses, and now Trump is one year into tearing them down with three to go.

And we have to fight every step of the way. We have to fight for every inch. They will not retreat. They will not give in. Their offers to negotiate are in bad faith – which Trump knows – he is not going to get rolled by Governor Flouncy Le Femme. The left must be crushed. That’s the only way – crushed by the power of our votes and through our use of what is left of the norms and the laws. It’s not easy – the only way through is through.

We have to keep fighting, and that’s why I absolutely cannot take the black-pilling, the dooming, the constant refrain that winning is impossible, that we are helpless and hopeless, and anyone saying different is part of the massive conspiracy.

But that’s dumb, and it’s weak, and those who do it are either too soft for the fight or think they can carve out a little niche of influence by pushing the dankest predictions for the future. The fainting femboys who counseled submission last weekend when some new commie malcontent got his ticked punched are part of the problem.

Here’s what’s true. This is real talk. We can absolutely lose this fight. Trump can choose humiliating and defeat. We can falter and watch the United States of America become a dreadful country bereft of manhood and honor, offering up its culture and country as a sacrifice as some sort of wine woman penance for the sins of civilization. But enough about Canada and most of Western Europe.

It does not have to be that way. We can win. We can take back our country – that was the whole point of the Trump movement. We would make America Great Again. Understand that our enemies hate that notion with a visceral fury – the idea that America can be anything but used Charmin in the hands of a chest-less, failed ruling class offends them to the core of what passes for their being. They are fighting precisely because they do not want America to be great. Oh, they want to rule a stunted and misshapen USA; what they want to avoid is people like you and me being prosperous, secure, and proud. They want a feudal America like we have a feudal California – all those sunshine and palm tree shots you see are real; I live in that world by the beach. There’s no real crime, just sunshine and great restaurants among the other lawyers, executives, HR officers, and others in the landed gentry. But you drive three miles west of my house, outside of the walls of the castle that some call I-405, and none of the kids can read. They want two Americas – theirs where they live in a materially-rich bubble; yours where you live in squalor, serving them, obeying them, recognizing their moral, intellectual, and metaphysical superiority.

They won’t give an inch as we push back, and we are pushing back. This is a multi-front campaign, from remaking the military to resetting the broken international trade system to uprooting the DEI cancer that has metastasized through society to tossing out the millions of Third World invaders whom they were counting on to fix America’s demographic problem. America’s problem was, of course, Americans not wanting to become serfs in their own country.

I get the frustration. I share it. And making known our demands for action is a good thing, a necessary thing, especially when you are making it known to the kind of cellblock submissive Republicans who begged Trump to surrender in Minneapolis and  proudly declared defeat in Indiana, they willingly hopped in Ned Beatty’s canoe as Virginia set them to squealing like pigs down the river. We need to keep up the pressure, but pressure is very different from whining like a teenage girl that everything is terrible and we’re doomed.

We’re doomed if we stop fighting, and we’re doomed if we stop winning elections, and the kind of histrionic caterwauling we see far too often about how Donald Trump – the guy who had reset the table in countless ways – is totally completely letting us down and why ever vote again and look at me and see how mad I am. Morale matters, which is why these whiners matter. They give the false impression that we are losing because we have not achieved unequivocal victory in every engagement and have not permanently consigned leftists to the dustbin of history. That’s a fool’s metric, because we will never “win.” We will always be fighting, always. Freedom, faith, and The Flag naturally draw enemies. Leftism will always be there as long as some humans are weak, stupid, jealous, and sexually inadequate. And some always will be.

We are not aiming at total victory. We are aiming at turning the tide, knowing, as adults do, that the tide will eventually turn and our temporary breather will end, and our kids – or, hopefully, their kids will have to join the battle again.

Again, I get the frustration. Leftists judges throw up obstacles. Commies seem to act with impunity. Congress does not pass the laws that common sense and patriotism demand. But let me ask you something – did you teach your kids that life was fair? It’s not. It’s hard, and there are injustices and obstacles.

Let’s look at some of the key bones of contention.

Leftist judges are out of control, but did you realize the DOJ is winning about 90% of the cases eventually? That’s an insane ratio – no one wins 90% of the time outside of Perry Mason or Matlock, and those are TV shows. The Trump strategy is to go through the judicial process, not only to win but to win on precedent, and to keep the “Nah, judge, not going to obey” card in his back pocket. It’s a smart strategy, winning one case at a time. It just takes patience – our patience. We have to be adults and delay gratification. But that gratification is coming nine times out of ten.

Mad because people are not being arrested as fast as you like? Criminal justice takes time. Sometimes you lose because the left ignores the norms and nullifies the verdict. Okay, fine – the enemy gets a vote, as we soldiers say. Angry that no one had been arrested over all the disgusting, treacherous scandals of the past? Here’s another of those cliches, the “Hard to Swallow Pill.” A lot of the bad deeds in the past are not prosecutable. They are either past the statute of limitations, have evidence issues, or are not crimes. Every bad thing – like a judge making legally bankrupt rulings – is not a crime. Most of our fights have to be won politically, meaning through voting.

“But we vote for Republicans, and they do nothing!” First, that’s nonsense – the Big Beautiful Bill prevented the largest tax increase ever and funded ICE for years. That’s a real win, as are the confirmations of a bunch of appointees. Second, there’s this thing called the filibuster. The Democrats can prevent most anything with it, except reconciliation (which is how we got the BBB passed). Voting on stuff just to lose is a waste of time. The filibuster exists, and it’s going to continue to exist as long as the GOP controls the Senate (and maybe thereafter). That’s not an excuse; that’s a realistic assessment of the situation.

What we need are realistic assessments of the situation, not emotional outbursts born of frustration. That’s self-indulgent; it may be temporarily satisfying to cry, but hurts morale and damages our prospects by turning off our voters.

Choose optimism. Don’t let up on the pressure to perform, but recognize our achievements – a real military, Iran emasculated, kids not being emasculated, illegal aliens being punted through the goal posts of America. We are going to be fighting forever, but we can win. We just have to be tough enough to keep fighting and to never quit. Remember, the only way through is through.
