With an Honest Press, Democrats Wouldn't Have Been Shocked at the Election Results

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Everywhere you look, Democrats are highly distressed by Donald Trump's magnificent victory and the GOP’s trifecta sweep. With honest reporting, however, missing from mainstream media for more than two decades, Democrats might have avoided their current pain and gnashing of teeth.

Gaslighting as the Norm

An honest press would have reported that Kamala Harris was ducking key questions, botching interviews, and offering word salad responses. Worse, she learned nothing from one interview to the next, and she was unprepared to address fundamental issues while her handlers ignored these deficiencies.

All the while, the mainstream press touted her as a skillful leader who would carve a new path forward, fight for the middle class, and unleash an “opportunity economy.” If the press had cited her glaring deficiencies in running for the highest office in the land, she and her team might have been able to make course corrections and thereby exhibit a better showing.

Instead, the mainstream press propped her up, along with inauthentic pollsters, strongly suggesting that it was a tight contest between Harris and Trump and that Harris was the superior candidate! Likewise, reporters failed to offer balanced reporting on her running mate, Tim Walz and generated countless features about what a great VP he would be.

A Failed Approach

Our mainstream press has managed to convince most voters that they are not to be trusted: that the press has no desire to offer fair and balanced reporting. Yet, “The Emperor's New Clothes” approach to propping up a presidential candidate will no longer work – Biden in 2020 will prove to be the last.

As many have observed, the mainstream press is merely an advocacy press, a branch of the Democratic National Committee committed to championing a vast array of Leftist causes.

The press went into overdrive, claiming that Donald Trump sought to overthrow the government and that he was a criminal many times over, as well as a rapist, a perjurer, and a traitor. Despite everything that the press threw at him and attempted to pass on to American voters, their own reputation, credibility, and credentials were mistrusted by most voters.

The press hoodwinked the very people on their side while completely turning off those who had even a modicum of common sense.

A Widening Gap

The gap between those on the Left and what they think they know and those on the Right is wider than ever.

Democrats live and work in a convoluted information bubble, taking their cues from The New York Times on down. Online, they never venture two or three clicks away to seek alternative views that could provide a more well-rounded picture of contemporary issues.

Too many Democrats today are like young children who are completely dependent on their parents for vital instruction on how to proceed in this world. Democrat voters, nevertheless, are adults. Rather than depending on parents, they rely on a corrupt corporate media machine that, politically, has no intention of providing an objective view.

Everything Democrat voters think they know about Donald Trump, they learned from the same press that hid Biden’s senility from them for more than three years. Everything they think they know about the Right, they learned from a compromised media that has not had a kind word for a conservative politician in eons.

If you doubt the statement above, consider the array of Republicans, going back more than 60 years, that the press has likened to Hitler, at one time or another, including Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney (circa 2001), Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Scott Walker, Ron Desantis, and, of course, Donald Trump.

At each point, when the mainstream press labels GOP politicians as “Hitler,” Democrats scoop it up as if it's a chocolate sauce with chopped walnuts, nuts, and whipped cream on an ice cream sundae. The dehumanization of Republicans makes it easy for rank-and-file Democrats to both hate Republicans and never consider their accomplishments and capabilities.

So, as Democrats headed into the November election, to them, Donald Trump unquestionably was, and is, in league with the devil. Kamala Harris is an angel sent to Earth to offer us effective, enlightened leadership. And, since the majority of voters backed the GOP, we surely must be racists, homophobes, xenophobes, and misogynists. Yeah, right.
