The Left’s Strategic Shift to Fear

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

The baton of war and destruction has appropriately passed to the virtue-signaling wing of the Democratic Party from the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party. This transition began when they waged war against individual choice during the COVID-19 crisis. They blindly supported shutting entire cities, states, and businesses down because of tyrants such as Dr. Anthony Fauci simply guessing the right policy for the solvency of the pandemic. Their desire for people to be not only reliant on the government's aid and every word but entrap them in constraints of both physical and fiscal handcuffs.

Now, they have applied this same tactic of virtue signaling to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

There has been nothing more cringe-worthy and symbolic of the current lLeftthan seeing Ukrainian flags in usernames as they pretend to care for a country they had never paid attention to before, all because they can relate directly to the hatred they had built for the government of Russia from when they were told the former president was an asset for them. All the American public has heard for the past month is how The United States has a 'duty' to protect the Ukrainian people from the authoritarian regime of Russia and how anyone who opposes intervention, be it economic or aggressive, is thus acting as a tool for Russian promotion.

This is the current Democratic Party. They are blindly taking a side in a conflict that has nothing to do with American involvement, but they are attacking anyone who disagrees with their warmongering attitude because of Russia?

The problem with this stance is that the same logic could be applied to any militaristic conflict in the world right now. If The United States should aid foreign citizens being abused by authoritarian governments, why are they not talking about the wars in Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Mozambique, Mali, Somalia, or Kenya? The Somali Civil War has resulted in over 500,000 deaths, the Syrian Civil War caused nearly 6,000 deaths in 2021 alone, and the Insurgency in the Maghreb has caused 5,720 causalities.

Interventionist argumentation based on morality cannot be argued for the United States' militaristic involvement, and the American people should certainly not fall for the moral virtue-signaling that the Left tries to attribute to any issues they have an opinion on.

Progressives currently apply this logic to the political strategy of the Democratic Party: if you do not believe in Critical Race Theory, you are a bigot; if you do not think the United States should aid Ukraine, you are a Russian Asset; and if you do not get a vaccine or wear a mask even outside, you want to kill your fellow Americans. This postmodernist approach to politics continues to erode any semblance of sanity, as we have been privy to in the last five years or more.

This is blatant insanity in every realm of political activism. Americans are not just being judged by these militant progressives for what they are doing in terms of action, but they are being targeted for simply thinking differently. Citizens do not even have to be Republican or conservative to be attacked for their beliefs, but instead just being unique as compared to the leftist wing of the Democratic Party. Figures such asJoe Rogan and Tulsi Gabbard, who both endorsed Bernie Sanders as recently as 2020 for the Democratic Presidential nomination, have been ostracized for simply speaking up on issues such as militaristic interventionism and vaccine mandates, yet have been attacked at every avenue from virtue signaling leftists

The DNC and its operatives are taking cancel culture as a political strategy head-on. The progressive wing of the Democratic Party have continued to take over a majority of its voters and politicians. Biden’sshifton issues such as immigration, spending, and government interference has been one of the most obvious policy turners that is noticeable. The man who many dubbed as a moderate has been, at least from a proposal perspective, one of the most progressive executives the American public has seen since Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Many Americans voted for Biden simply because he was viewed as the more centrist choice in comparison to a very conservative option such as former President Trump, but now Biden’s approval ratings haveplummetedbecause of the way he has shifted towards federal government authoritarianism and far-left social policy, which is much deserved.
