Psssssst! It’s Not About the Statues

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

If I had a penny for every social media post pointing out that Abe Lincoln or Gen. Ulysses Grant fought to end slavery, I could buy a reasonably priced cup of coffee. So then, why are the Leftist mobs tearing down or defacing their statues in the name of ending racism?

They’re not. It’s not about racism.

I’m not saying that many Antifa types aren’t a bit on the slow side and are likely completely ignorant of any given aspect of American history. All they know is, America…bad….America …racist…..I’m offended…blah blah blah. My dogs could outwit most of them. If you’ve ever heard them speak, they have the intellectual capacity of a squirrel when faced with any seemingly simple question like, “Why are you here?” Their ignorance and/or intellectual incapacity is not the point.

They are not tearing down statues because they are ignorant of history or couldn’t place Christopher Columbus, the Civil War, or Teddy Roosevelt on a timeline within a 100-year margin. Although it is easy to write them off as “too dumb to even know what they are doing," that does not negate the real threat they present. When they are storming your gate ready to “eat the rich,” do you care if they know whether or not Abe Lincoln freed the slaves?

Why then, do they destroy statues?

They are tearing down statues because they hate America.

They hate everything about the good ol' USA, right down to its history and the statues representing that history. They hate our culture. They hate our political system. They hate our founding documents. They hate our flag. They hate our anthem. They hate capitalism or at least so they say. Then again, they really don’t understand how that works either but I digress. They hate it all to include every bit of our history good or bad and they hate you too.

This hate is not new. See if this describes what you are witnessing nightly on your television or daily in your news feed:

The revolutionary enters the world of the State, of the privileged classes, of the so-called civilization, and he lives in this world only for the purpose of bringing about its speedy and total destruction. He is not a revolutionary if he has any sympathy for this world. He should not hesitate to destroy any position, any place, or any man in this world. He must hate everyone and everything in it with an equal hatred. All the worse for him if he has any relations with parents, friends, or lovers; he is no longer a revolutionary if he is swayed by these relationships.

Sound like any group you know?

How about this?

The revolutionary knows that in the very depths of his being, not only in words but also in deeds, he has broken all the bonds which tie him to the social order and the civilized world with all its laws, moralities, and customs, and with all its generally accepted conventions. He is their implacable enemy, and if he continues to live with them it is only in order to destroy them more speedily. The revolutionary despises all doctrines and refuses to accept the mundane sciences, leaving them for future generations. He knows only one science: the science of destruction.”

Sound familiar?

One more:

For him, there exists only one pleasure, one consolation, one reward, one satisfaction – the success of the revolution. Night and day he must have but one thought, one aim – merciless destruction. Striving cold-bloodedly and indefatigably toward this end, he must be prepared to destroy himself and to destroy with his own hands everything that stands in the path of the revolution.”

No, this wasn’t taken from the CHOP manifesto or the Antifa handbook. It was penned 151 years ago by Sergey Nechayev, a Russian communist revolutionary.

That’s right. What you are seeing daily is not a new thing. Mob brutality and the breakdown of civil society via rampant destruction of all aspects of that society is not a tactic dreamed up by the geniuses at Antifa University. It is a tactic used by communist revolutionaries for 150+ years. If you want to understand what you are seeing, read the Revolutionary Catechism by Sergey Nechayev. You can read it in five minutes. Here’s the Cliff’s notes version: “Destroy everything.”

So, what you do with commie revolutionaries bent on destroying everything? The Czar had ol' Sergey imprisoned as his personal prisoner in Siberia. That didn’t help him much when one of Sergey’s “fellow travelers” assassinated him while out riding his horse.

When you hear these modern-day revolutionaries refer to one another as a comrade, it’s not a mistake. When you witness their tactics, understand that they did not invent them on their own. When you discover the roots of these malcontents, their motivations and objectives will become crystal clear. It’s not like the co-founder of Black Lives Matter referred to her comrades as “trained Marxists” or anything like that. Oh, wait. She did.

Until our ruling classes understand the nature of this enemy, you can expect more of the same from these modern Marxist revolutionaries. Winston Churchill wisely stated, “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.”

They will not be stopped with appeasement. They will not be stopped with one election. Donald Trump and all the powers of the presidency cannot stop them as long as there is not a steel-willed determination of the populace to end this. They must be recognized as the enemy that they are and treated accordingly at every level of our society. Their ideology needs to be revealed and purged from every classroom, every campus, every board room, every legislative chamber, every government agency, every living room, and from every pulpit. It is an ideology of hate and destruction. We must destroy the enemies of freedom with the ideals of freedom. If we fail as a nation to recognize this enemy for what it is, then we are doomed to repeat the mistakes of history. In case you missed the lecture on the Russian Revolution, it didn’t end well for the Czars.

It’s not about race. It’s not about statues. It’s not about policing. It’s about a movement that seeks to destroy literally everything about our nation until a time when their Marxist utopia rises from the ashes.

This July 4th, we will celebrate our total rejection of royal tyranny. Our revolution was not one of control and power, but one of freedom and liberty. Let us all do our part in refusing to kneel to tyrants and stand firm in our resolve to remain free.
