Libertarian Jeff Flake Defends Lies of Cuban Dictator Castro—Denounces President Trump as the Liar

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

“I do believe Cuba’s responsible. I do believe that. And it’s a very unusual attack, as you know. But I do believe Cuba is responsible.” (President Trump regarding strange attacks on U.S. diplomats in Cuba that resulted in brain damage.)

“What we’ve said to the Cubans is: small island, you’ve got a sophisticated security apparatus. You probably know who is doing it. You can stop it. It’s as simple as that.” (Secretary of State Rex Tillerson regarding same attacks.)

Recently brain-damage was confirmed on the U.S. diplomats who served in the U.S. embassy in Cuba. So to most reasonable people, the KGB-founded and mentored totalitarian regime’s lies denying “deliberate attacks” on U.S. diplomats appeared obvious and pathetic.

Enter the ever-reliable (in serving the interests of the rabidly anti-American, terror-sponsoring, mass-murdering, nuke-rattling, private-property-abolishing Castro regime) Senator Jeff Flake. The famous “libertarian” quickly embraced and parroted the totalitarian regime’s blatant lies word for word–and denounced his own government as the liars!

…There’s no evidence that somebody (Castro-regime) purposefully tried to harm somebody (U.S. diplomats and families) ….there’s no evidence that that was a deliberate attack by somebody, either the Cubans or anybody else.” (Jeff Flake, Havana, Cuba, 1/6/2018.)

Needless to add, while denouncing his government as liars last week, Senator Flake was (yet again!) on a red-carpet visit to Havana hosted by his Stalinist Cuban friends. Too bad a communist anti-aircraft gun wasn’t nearby--or Flake could have donned a communist helmet, hopped atop the seat, and posed for pictures while aiming it at imaginary U.S. planes during the Bay of Pigs.

Not that Flake wasn’t otherwise enjoying himself while claiming that the regime responsible for jailing and torturing political prisoners at a higher rate than Stalin’s during The Great Terror, murdering more political prisoners in its first three years in power than Hitler’s in its first six, that pleaded, begged and finally even tried tricking Nikita Khrushchev into nuking the U.S., that provided moral and material support to practically every terror-group on earth—while implying that this regime was obviously incapable of laying a finger on U.S. diplomats.

No, the libertarian Senator Flake—as always when in the totalitarian sh*thole created by the Castros from a once advanced and prosperous nation--was all smiles!

Repression against Cubans by Castro’s dollar-enriched secret-police is at a 20-year high.  Not a penny of the $8 billion Castro stole from U.S. citizens (after torturing and murdering several who resisted the burglary) has been compensated. Not a single one of the convicted U.S. murderers and terrorists –including some of the FBI’s most wanted, who live like celebrities in Cuba, have been returned.

And still Senator Jeff Flake has not budged an inch on his support for increasing the U.S. cash-flow to the Castro regime. Jeff Flake remains the Castro regime’s most reliable and hardest-working champion on Capitol Hill. This cash-flow, by the way, is estimated at from $4-5.2 billion annually, primarily from travel expenditures by U.S. travelers to Cuba and from remittances.

This just-in-time economic lifeline for the terror-sponsoring Castro regime was made possible by Obama’s executive orders.

Senator Flake had been lobbying for just such an economic lifeline (and more) to the Castro regime from the minute he entered Congress in 2000. Towards this goal Flake co-founded the Congressional “Cuba Working Group,” in 2002.

Seemingly, Senator Flake opposes the very enforcement of the U.S. Constitution. To wit:

Helms-Burton Act of 1996 (Codified in Title 22, Sections 6021-6091 of the U.S. Code. SEC. 207. Settlement of Outstanding U.S. Claims to Confiscated Property in Cuba:

“The satisfactory resolution of property claims by a Cuban Government recognized by the United States remains an essential condition for the full resumption of economic and diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba.”

Does Senator Flake, this self-proclaimed champion of free enterprise and property rights, consider a gruff “off the table!” by Castro’s smirking apparatchiks a “satisfactory” resolution to the $8 billion Castro’s gunmen stole from U.S. citizens, after torturing and murdering several who resisted the burglary? That’s exactly what President Obama’s groveling “negotiators” heard every time they dared bring up the issue with Castro’s KGB-trained apparatchiks.

To justify his Castro-love Senator Flake is fond of citing an item from libertarian CATO Institute’s official Cuba position paper: “A 1998 report by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency concluded that, “Cuba does not pose a significant military threat to the U.S. or to other countries in the region.”

Unfortunately for the libertarian CATO Institute and its Golden Boy Jeff Flake, the author of that 1998 report by the Defense Intelligence Agency, former DIA Senior Analyst Ana Belen Montes, is behind bars today after conviction for the same crimes as Ethel and Julius Rosenberg but on behalf of the KGB-founded and mentored Castro regime. Montes’ espionage crimes are widely regarded as the most damaging against our foreign policy in recent history, and have resulted in the deaths of U.S. servicemen overseas.

That Jeff Flake (and the CATO Institute) cite this communist spy as their authority on U.S.-Cuba relations should close the case for all patriots.
