Spygate

In 1974 President Nixon was forced to resign because of his administration’s spying on Democrats and others who presented a political threat. Ostensibly, it was the cover-up that spanned more than two years that brought him down.

Today, a hypocritical press corps, devoted to the former president, and almost the entire left-wing media is thus far ignoring and downplaying the disclosures about former National Security Advisor Susan Rice’s surveillance on American citizens. Even The New York Times, already colloquially known by the slogan, “All the news that fits we print,” printed the potentially most explosive story in half a century, inside the paper, on page 16. It appears that the establishment is doing all it can to bury this story.

During an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” with Mika Brzezinski, Dr. Evelyn Farkas, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Russia / Ukraine / Eurasia, under the Obama administration, mentioned that the “Trump people would be very surprised if they found out how we knew what we knew “ -  where the leaks were coming from.

Because of Congressman Devin Nunez, Chairman of the  House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, we now know where the leaks were coming from – or do we?

As a reminder of what happened back in 1974, here is the post-Watergate toll for those involved in the illegalities of the grandfather of all “Gates: President Nixon was forced to resign; John Mitchell, Attorney General and Chairman of the Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP) went to jail and served 19 months. Also jailed were: White House staffers H.R. Haldeman and John Ehrlichman; John Dean, White House legal counsel; Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy (White House staff and Watergate break-in planners); Charles Colson, special counsel to the President and James McCord (Security Director of CREEP)

In all, there were more than 40 White House people involved.

From the convictions it was obvious that there was widespread collusion to cover-up the illegal spying. At the time, though, there was suspicion that the illegal espionage was much wider and went more deeply into the government than what was exposed, including elements of the government intelligence community; and that was the reason that the Republicans finally forced Nixon to step down. It was more about protecting the future of the country, rather than just protecting a Republican presidency. Some felt that Nixon was in a very real sense attempting to “subvert” the government – if not by an actual coup, by gaining control of its operation by using the intelligence community to do his bidding in order to protect his interests by affecting those on his enemies list.

I previously wrote on February 22nd that Attorney Larry Klayman has a client, Dennis Montgomery, who has submitted evidence to FBI Director James Comey, showing that the Obama administration was spying on everyone from the Justices on the Supreme Court to American businessmen, including pre-candidate Donald Trump.

If the timeline of the Rice espionage information is true, that she began her requests for surveillance on American citizens well before Trump was a frontrunner in the 2016 campaign, it begs the question: Who else was being surveilled?  Does it include most of the Republican opposition? The Obama administration used the IRS to go after the Tea Party. Was there also an Obama Enemies List?

We now know that, at least, James Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, Susan Rice, former National Security Advisor, James Comey Director of the FBI, Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications, and even Evelyn Farkas, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, all knew about the illegal surveillance. And, Farkas said she knew others were working to spread the information. If these people were involved, they may have committed felonies.

So, how wide, how deep and how high does this spying go? Did the Obama administration actually do on a larger scale what Nixon only attempted to do? If so, this represents a true threat to democratic government in the United States.

Thus far the Democrats and the media have given Obama a free ride on all his lies. Susan Rice, the face of this latest revelation, unabashedly lied about the terrorist aspect of the attack on Benghazi in order to help Obama’s re-election chances.

How much longer can the Democrats in Congress continue to ignore the truth -that there are times when national interests outweigh party politics?
