Despite Obama's Opposition, Dem. Convention Chair Wants Party to Endorse Same Sex Marriage

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

At a Politico breakfast this morning, Los Angeles mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, the Democratic convention chair, said the Democratic party's platform should include same sex marriage.

But one wonders what the president might say about Villaraigosa's comment. After all, Obama is opposed to same sex marriage. “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman,” Obama is quoted as saying in 2008. “For me, as a Christian, it is also a sacred union.”

More recently, President Obama has said his views are "evolving." But they have not changed, and now the chair of the Democratic convention publicly wants the Democratic party to accept something the president of the same party is not able to accept.
