An exhibit was recently posted at Arizona State University that perfectly exemplifies the Left today. It is a drawing of George Floyd with a crown of thorns on his head, and the caption on it read, “George Floyd Died for Us, Each and Every Last One of Us...God Chose Him.” This is not only horribly blasphemous to Christians (the Left loves doing that), but it is also very sad, and illustrates exactly what the Left has become in America, and, as much as that, what it produces. And countless millions of Americans have totally swallowed it.
I am a (far from perfect) Christian, and I believe very strongly in the moral (and other) teachings of that religion. Based upon my religious convictions, I believe that people should live noble, honorable, self-sacrificial, self-controlled, loving lives of service to others. Virtue. How many times have I written about virtue in my columns? The great men who founded our country taught us the absolute necessity of having a virtuous citizenship. “I go on the great republican principle that the people will have virtue and intelligence to select men of virtue and wisdom. Is there no virtue among us?” (James Madison). The main author of our Constitution further wrote: “The aim of every political constitution is, or ought to be, first to obtain for rulers men who possess the most wisdom to discern, and most virtue to pursue, the common good of the society, and in the next place, to take the most effectual precautions for keeping them virtuous whilst they continue to hold their public trust.” Such thoughts are repeated, almost ad infinitum, in the writings of our Founding Fathers and other great people throughout history.
But this isn’t what the Left believes, which is why they are trying to destroy America’s Founders in the eyes of our people. They believe in an ever-evolving world where moral standards are not constant, not absolute, are to be defined by the individual (or government), where there is no God to provide a fixed, final answer for mankind’s reason for existence, for mankind’s hopes, for mankind’s guidance. We live in a world today where the zeitgeist is defined by Darwinian, Marxian, naturalistic, materialistic atheism—no God will save us, we must save ourselves. Our “god” thus becomes whatever each individual wants him (or her) to be. Everybody defines their own purpose for existence, their own carnal lifestyle, their own personal moral code. And since each person has his/her own ideas about good and evil and right and wrong, then “live and let live” becomes the prevailing motto. The only true evil people are those who censure evil, the only thing we cannot tolerate is intolerance, the greatest crime is to condemn criminality. “Live and let live.” It sounds good. It’s the Left.

And George Floyd listened to it and believed it. He accepted the Leftist lie of nihilistic selfishness—the very opposite of self-controlled virtue. And as a result, he didn’t know what to do with his life, except to do “that which was right in his own eyes,” “live and let live,” and other selfish, Leftist pablum. It seems George Floyd had no goal, no outstanding moral example to follow, no one teaching him moral excellence, nobility, honor, industry, love, and service to mankind. So, he ended up a drug addict (which contributed to his death) and a criminal. And he ended up dead. A victim of the Left. It’s a tragedy beyond words.
But it’s what happens to so many people who believe the Left’s lies. How many millions of George Floyds has Leftism left stranded in its wake?
The Left offers nothing but this nihilistic egocentrism. And in a world where no moral absolutes exist, anything can happen. Men can become women and get pregnant, men marry men, children get butchered, pedophiles “come for your children,” and a drug-soaked criminal gets a crown of thorns on his head and “died for each and every last one of us.” Anything becomes possible, and why not? Nothing fixed, final, absolute exists to define the purpose, goal, and direction that humanity should follow. George Floyd fell for it. If he had lived the life of virtue and self-control he SHOULD have lived, he would probably be alive today and a productive member of society. But he believed a lie.
And the Left, never learning, never WANTING to learn, is still preaching the lie that resulted in the death of George Floyd, Michael Brown, and countless other Americans who are offered no hope by a Left which has no hope to offer.
Except selfishness. Personal pleasure, whatever the cost. And eternal nothingness.
Oh, the Left will tell you they believe in “moral absolutes” (like Donald Trump is a Nazi). But whatever “moral absolutes” they believe in today will change tomorrow, because that is the ever-evolving world they believe in. Ask Marx: “Communism abolishes eternal truths, it abolishes all religion, and all morality, instead of constituting them on a new basis; it therefore acts in contradiction to all past historical experience.” That’s the Left. That’s Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. That’s what contributed to killing George Floyd, and contributes to killing countless other Americans every week in Democratic Party run cities throughout the nation. And half of America, at least, apparently believes it.
Folks, I’m a Christian and I make no apology for it, and I will defend it until I die. I stand, right now, exactly where I stood 50 years ago. Because truth never changes. America has changed, and largely abandoned me. But truth doesn’t change.
And because so many Americans have rejected it for pleasure-oriented nihilism, George Floyd died. He died because he believed it, too. It is indeed a sad legacy the Left is leaving us.
