I don't think it's too much to expect that if you're a country, you take care of your own citizens. Remember how colonialism was bad? The only difference between the United States giving handouts and colonialism is that foreign nations at least nominally pretend to be running something when it's really us. These nations are saying they can't do their basic duty, and that only Americans can make the world work. Now, I don't disagree with that – I've lived overseas. However, other nations are happy to take our money and not do any of the things. The argument that "Hi, we're incompetent and we suck so you owe us stuff" isn't cutting it anymore. America has interests and should pursue those interests. And our interest is not subsidizing every pack of third-world barbarians with their palms out yelling, "Gimme!"
