Sorry, Bloomberg, Wokeness Won’t Ever Rule the World

Something astonishing happened a few weeks ago: The New York Times ran an article titled “Liberal Hypocrisy is Fueling American Inequality.”

While conservative news outlets have been saying for years, the Old Gray Lady has at last come to the same conclusion, mostly zeroing in on the disaster of liberal-run San Francisco. If there is a place where so-called progressives could demonstrate their vision for society, it would be on a tiny peninsula where they have absolute political power and unlimited resources.

But instead, a city that was once one of America’s greatest achievements, San Francisco is now infamous for rampant crime, drug use, childlessness, and probably the worst billionaire-to-homeless person ratio in human history. One disaffected liberal blogger humbly captured this failure in a post on Tuesday, showing there is perhaps promise that liberals can re-take the Democrat Party and its allied institutions from the cult of woke.

Alas the same day Bloomberg News ran a tone-deaf diatribe promising that “Wokeness will rule the world!” after becoming the next great US export

For Bloomberg to run that headline shows unusual obtuseness, especially as we’re going into an election year where Democrats are expected to lose the largest number of Congressional seats of a generation. That kind of vapid, moronic arrogance is not the sign of a mature worldview; that kind of vow of world domination is usually reserved for cults.

Because wokeness – as many on our side have long known and a large number on the other side are now realizing – is not a political philosophy. Wokeness is not an advanced form of liberalism, indeed anyone who genuinely believes in the liberty of the individual should be just as repulsed by it as conservatives are. Wokeness is a primitive religion, with its own rites and speech acts (sharing pronouns), blasphemy laws (cancel culture), original sin (admitting your privilege), priest class (anyone with the word “diversity” in their job title), eschatology (climate change), and human sacrifices (worship of abortion).

And boy oh boy does wokeness have witch trials.

But wokeness has no god – so there’s no one to aspire to – and no redeemer – so there’s no forgiveness. It has no prophet – so there’s no one to hold accountable – and it has no Bible – so there’s no doctrine to debate or guide … but there is plenty of profit to be had for those trying to write the Woke Bible.

However, unlike the Hebrew Bible, or even something like the Chinese social credit score, wokeness has no basis in a tradition that has kept society going for thousands of years. Wokeness is based on a never-ending spiral of narcissistic cultists competing to out-righteous each other – all shared conveniently in 10 second clips on TikTok. Wokeness is all the negative parts of a primitive religion, without any of the ennobling virtues like kindness, community, mindedness, or family.

Indeed, as Elon Musk summed it up to the Babylon Bee, “At its heart wokeness is divisive, exclusionary, and hateful. It basically gives mean people a shield to be mean and cruel, armored in false virtue.”

We live in such a crazy period that Times Magazine’s person of the year feels the best place for him is a humor website. But with as bad as things are (and as horrible as they could become), it seems like we need a little humor.

This last year we’ve seen wokeness in action, with absolute power at the Federal level and blue mayors treating their cities like fiefdoms. The first year of the “Biden” Administration has been an irrefutable failure, with economic malaise at home and disaster abroad. With hostile powers arming for war, Biden’s catastrophe in Afghanistan is just a taste of what could happen around the world if America continues to weaken.

There is nothing good on the other side of tearing down the most powerful, most benevolent empire in human history.

Wokeness will never rule the world, but it might ruin the world we have, allowing an imperialist Chinese communist regime and other bad actors to inherit the Earth. Realizing that wokeness will do just that, French President Emmanuel Macron has even demanded that America stop exporting its false new religion

Yes, this is too much even for France.

Conservatives can point and laugh at the tragedy of San Francisco or other Democrat-run disasters, but pointing out hypocrisy rarely stops fanatics. And whereas Christianity teaches that one must first faithfully rule over small things before ruling over great things, wokeness demands all power over everything for its own sake, and if they fail it’s only because they don’t have enough power. (Liberals didn’t ruin San Francisco; capitalism did!)

There are those at The New York Times who have started to realize this, but Bloomberg wants you to drink the Kool-Aid – or else.
