ALBANY, Ga. (BP) -- The film "Courageous," still enjoying a successful run in theaters, will be released on DVD Jan. 17.

Provident Films, which helped market Courageous to Christian audiences, announced the DVD release date Monday, saying it will have more than two hours of special features, including deleted scenes, a "making of Courageous" segment and Courageous bloopers. It also will be released on Blu-ray.

Made by the same church that filmed "Fireproof" -- Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. -- Courageous is still showing in more than 500 theaters nationwide. It actually opened in about 100 new theaters in its eighth weekend while pulling out of several hundred.

Courageous was the top new movie on its opening weekend and has grossed $32.3 million -- about $1.1 million shy of Fireproof's $33.4 million. The next several weeks will determine if it passes Fireproof.

The movie follows the story of five men -- four of them police officers -- as they strive to become better fathers.
