Graham, admitted to Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C., Wednesday, is responding well to the antibiotics, although no discharge date has been set. The hospital is near his Montreat, N.C., home. He is 92.

"Mr. Graham's staff said that, following a comfortable night during which he slept well, he continues to be in good spirits," the statement said.

He also praised the "skill and loving care" of the nursing staff.

His pulmonologist is Shaw C. Henderson and his regular primary care physician is Lucian Rice.
