McCain Campaign Calls Obama Attack 'Sexist'

One of GOP presidential candidate John McCain’s high-level surrogates lashed out against their rival campaign’s assessment their candidate had more experience than McCain’s newly-minted vice president, calling their attacks “sexist.”

Since Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin was announced as McCain’s vice president, Obama and other Democrats have levied the charge she is too inexperienced for the slot. At one campaign stop, Obama’s vice president Joe Biden could only offer that “she’s good looking” when attempting to lay out the differences between Palin and himself.

So far, Obama has dismissed Governor Palin as nothing more than a small-town mayor saying, “Well, my understanding is that Governor Palin's town of Wasilla has I think 50 employees. We've got 2,500 in this campaign. I think their budget is maybe $12 million a year. You know, we have a budget of about three times that just for the month. So I think that our ability to manage large systems and to execute I think has been made clear over the last couple of years.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown followed up with the small town talking point by saying, “She’s been mayor of a city half the size of Blue Ash and governor of a state with half the population of Hamilton County” at a stop Tuesday morning.

“I am appalled by the Obama campaign's attempts to belittle Governor Sarah Palin’s experience,” Republican National Committee Victory Chair Carly Fiorina said a statement released Tuesday. “The facts are that Sarah Palin has made more executive decisions as a Mayor and Governor than Barack Obama has made in his life. Because of Hillary Clinton's historic run for the Presidency and the treatment she received, American women are more highly tuned than ever to recognize and decry sexism in all its forms. They will not tolerate sexist treatment of Governor Palin.”
