The toxic mix of Islamic protesters and their leftist fellow travelers is threatening the Jewish communities in Western democracies.
Years ago, the US developed the Binary VX nerve agent. It was a very powerful chemical weapon. The unique feature of the binary version was that two inert chemicals mixed during warhead delivery to produce the deadly VX gas that then went to work on the nervous system, specifically the enzyme, acetylcholinesterase.
I was reminded of VX2 as it was called when I thought about the unholy alliance of Islamists in the West and their leftist fellow protesters. Just a quick look at where each group is holding would suggest that the twain should never have met.
Islamists support:
*Honor killings of women who associate with unapproved men;
*Throwing homosexuals off of tall buildings without the aid of a parachute;
*Female genital mutiltation;
*Keeping women uneducated and at home; and,
*Strict Koranic law as the law of the land, superseding local laws, including those that allow for abortion and equal rights for gays and “trans” persons.
Those on the left typically support:
*Abortion until second grade;
*Trans “rights” vis-a-vis bathrooms, pronouns, sports competition, and beer drinking;
*Women working more than staying home to have babies;
*Curbing the supposed male-centric "patriarchy"; and,
*Freedom from any religious obligation.
Thus, on paper, these two groups should snarl at each other—the Islamist from Cairo who watches Iranian snuff videos of homosexuals jettisoned from rooftops and the pierced, blue-haired trans “guy” who says that all religions should be banned. So how is it that they march by the thousands or the hundreds of thousands in London, if they would seem to be sworn enemies?
One feature of deep-seated antisemitism, as opposed to the genteel version of not allowing Jews into country clubs or Harvard, is that hardcore antisemites harm their own interests due to their intense Jew-hatred. Historically, wouldn’t Hitler have benefited from all of the Jewish physicists that he drove out of Europe and right into the Manhattan Project? Wouldn’t Russia have benefited from the Jewish scientists who emigrated to Israel and powered Israel’s fledgling tech sector? If the Palestinians had made peace thirty years ago, Ramallah could be a thriving international destination, while Gaza could have been the go-to Mediterranean beach for the beautiful people of Europe. But the Palestinians—like Hitler, Stalin, and a whole host of despots and peoples before them—are so enthralled in harming Jews that they are willing to destroy their own future in the process. I have previously mentioned how Gazans, during the first few days after Israel’s total withdrawal in 2005, destroyed millions of dollars of hothouses that could have produced tens of millions of dollars annually in produce for international sale. Gazans on 10/7 enjoyed raping, burning, beheading, and kidnapping Jews, but—spoiler alert—where the IDF has taken control, entire neighborhoods have been taken apart and destroyed. When they one day return to where their homes were, Gazans will not be able to figure out which empty plot of sand was theirs and which belonged to their neighbor.

I am sure that when the Islamists are alone or speak to each other in Arabic, they talk about how they would like to get rid of the gays and trans who are running around with keffiyehs and “From the River to the Sea” banners. The lefties are probably gullible enough to think that their partnership with the Muslims is forever. They are truly fools. Everything that they believe in is an anathema to Islamists. They are just so happy to join other Jew haters that they simply ignore all of the flashing red lights.
And so the left and the Islamists have joined forces not only against Israel or even the Jews, but rather against all of the West. When they blocked Lincoln Tunnel and three major Manhattan bridges last week, were they trying to stop just Jews? Were they trying to inconvenience those who make the decisions in Washington on whether to give weapons to Israel or bomb the Houthis? Of course not. They joined forces to show that they can shut down the West’s most important financial hub. In the process, they pissed off tens of thousands who got to work late, missed appointments, and had family who needed them—like that Brooklyn driver who got out of his car and screamed at the protesters, who then let only him through. The smart move would have been to focus solely on Israel so that liberal Jews might join them against the Jewish state. And they certainly would not block traffic or try to break into the White House or deface a military cemetery, because by doing so a lot of non-Jews now hate them. Those same people could have been kept neutral or been added to their side. But their Jew-hatred is so intense that they don’t care. They just do whatever they think that they can get away with, without any thought of the consequences. And there will be consequences. People are going to vote for the candidates who promise accountability. Those who can be thrown out of the country will be given the boot. Those who damage property or interfere with traffic or getting to a major airport will do time.
Jew-hatred has gotten the better of the Islamists and leftists. If Donald Trump wins in November, he might have to send them a thank you note before he deports them and throws them in jail. Jew haters cannot control themselves. When they have to choose between a benefit or Jew hatred, they will give up on the benefit simply to fulfill their visceral hatred of the Jews. When Clauidine Gay told Congress that antisemitism was due to a lack of education, I wrote to her to say that antisemitism is generally a deep-seated hatred and some of the biggest antisemites in history have been professors, doctors, and similarly “educated” people. She’s gone from her perch at Harvard, but antisemitism persists there and throughout the West.
I have seen many Jews coming to Israel to look at possibly moving here. The West will soon have to choose between its Jewish communities and those who wish to do them harm. Jews have contributed to every country in which they have lived. It is my hope that the Western democracies will choose the good and protect their Jewish citizens. Look at countries that have no Jews or very few--Syria, Jordan, Iran, North Korea, China. These are not models for what the West should become. Those who wish to harm Israel, Jews and the West must be dealt with using every legal means possible. Nothing short of the future of Western democracies is at stake.
