Francesca Hong thinks that if she manages to win the Wisconsin governor's race in November, it will propel other progressive candidates and help elect a progressive president. "A victory for our campaign is a victory for working-class people in Wisconsin and across the country — and it could signal to many candidates that we have common issues that we can be fighting for," Hong said at a recent get-out-the-vote rally, according to Axios.

Unfortunately, Democrats in Wisconsin and nationally don't seem too keen on Hong, and this writer is starting to think it may not be because she will lose in November. They might be afraid she's going to win, and when Wisconsin collapses under her progressive, socialist leadership, it'll ruin their chances.

Her primary opponent, David Crowley, said Hong is a liability for Democrats and that she can't win.

 Hong still needs to win her primary Tuesday. Crowley, who's seen a bump in the polls, is explicitly arguing that Hong would be a liability for Democrats in the fall.

  • "People don't like socialists," he told Axios. "Socialists didn't poll very good. … And so it's leading me to believe that she can't win."

Crowley's campaign released a compelling memo after the Michigan U.S. Senate primary ended up being far closer than the polls predicted. Abdul El-Sayed only beat Haley Stevens by about a point, and he got trounced in Detroit and among non-college-educated voters. So Crowley is right that socialism doesn't poll well ... with some demographic groups.

If she's the nominee, what will Democrats do? We've seen them thwart the will of their voters several times in the past. They booted Bernie in 2016, they ousted Biden in 2024, they kicked Platner to the curb this year. Will they try to harm Hong's chances in Wisconsin, even passively?

Remember, they pushed for Crowley to get back into the race after he dropped out in early July, even pulling current Gov. Tony Evers out of mothballs to endorse Crowley and campaign with him.

The Wisconsin primary is tomorrow, so we'll have our answer in about 36 hours.
