Former CNN Anchor: The Second Amendment Saved My Life

Last week during a road trip out west, former CNN journalists  Chuck de Caro and Lynne Russell had a brush with death after an armed man pushed his way into their New Mexico motel room. Luckily, the recently married couple was armed and their assailant ended up dead. Here are the details

Ex-reporter Chuck de Caro killed the alleged gunman after he accosted de Caro's wife, Lynne Russell, in the parking lot of an Albuquerque motel and forced his way inside their room, Russell told local outlet KOB-TV.

Russell, a retired CNN Headline News anchor, said she slipped a handgun into her purse and passed the bag to her husband as if it contained cash or something else valuable they could offer the intruder.

"'Is there anything in here we can give him?'" Russell said she hinted as she passed the purse. "Chuck said, 'Oh, yes, there is.'"

The intruder allegedly fired first, and a shootout ensued in the room. De Caro was hit three times, but is expected to survive, police said. Police found the gunman in the parking lot and he died at a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, according to an Albuquerque Police Department statement. Russell was unharmed.

Last night Russell made an appearance on The Kelly File to tell her story, stressing the importance of carrying legal firearms that night.

And, Russell has some harsh words for proponents of gun control: "Shut the f*** up."

“If you don’t want to carry, please don’t.” Russell said. “Then, shut the f–k up about it. Make your own decisions.“

Russell went on to say that “the discussion over the debate to own a gun is just ridiculous. As Americans we have the right to bear arms and as humans the right to protect ourselves. I’m sure that the man who shot my husband did not have a gun permit.”
