Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) will deliver the Republican Party’s response to the president’s State of the Union Address next week. The GOP coupled the announcement yesterday with a promotional video, providing information about Rep. Rodgers’ background, family life, and political career. She’s also a mother of three, and explains in the video below that her oldest child, Cole, was diagnosed with Down syndrome when he was born. “I’m so grateful for Cole and his influence on my life,” she says. “I’m a better legislator, I’m a better person because of [him].” Very moving. Incidentally, she was also the first person in her family to graduate college, and now serves as the House Republican Conference chairwoman.
