Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

Given the news coming out of Washington these days, you might think our country doesn’t stand a prayer.

Yet, one Congressman’s recent address to the Conservative Political Action Conference shows that hope is alive in our nation’s capital, as long as there are leaders who are willing to call upon the Almighty for guidance.

Congressman Mike Pence represents the 6th district of Indiana. In his speech to CPAC, he spoke of U.S. News & World Report calling to check out a rumor that he opened his staff meetings at the House Republic Conference with prayer.

“Only in Washington, D.C.,” Pence said, “is being caught in private prayer a newsworthy event.

“We told them, ‘Yes, the Congressman does open meetings in prayer. We pray for the President, for colleagues in both parties, and sometimes we even pray for the press!’

“The truth is that in times like these it is good to ‘remember what your knees are for.’”

Pence recalled how our founding fathers believed firmly in prayer. Prayer was also an important part of the administration of one of our greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln: Continued...

WRH Bill, you raise valid points
As a Christian conservative, though, I would point out the following:

I'll bet no office holder actually believes that prayer by itself is meant to be the solution to any practical problem. I'm sure most see prayer as invoking the Almighty's favor and guidance before taking action on a critical issue. I think this shows both wisdom and humility -- highly desirable traits in any leader, even if rarer than a Babylonian coin.

And I understand your skepticism about the effectiveness of prayer if based solely on how "hard" one prays -- but only because the Scriptures teach plainly that obedience, too, is a condition for answered prayer.

As for a leader's prayer for guidance in the assurance of receiving it, wouldn't it be pointless to pray otherwise? Why pray for anything one assumes one will not get?

I do agree that critical thinking should be part of any decision-making process -- both during and after prayer. But this should not be based on any reliance on human intellect. Rather, it implies obedience to the biblical command to love (honor) God with all one's heart and soul and MIND.

The adage that "God helps those who help themselves" is well-intentioned, but unsound theologically. It is useless as a supplement to (Christian) prayer. And though I agree that "God won't do your thinking for you," I also assert that thinking "for yourself" calls for reverent submission to Him Who is the Source of reason and order in the universe.

Whose God Are You Praying To?
My Dear:

Do you not know that we have a KING that is above ALL KINGS? HIS NAME IS ABOVE ALL NAMES? HIS NAME IS JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD...
HE IS KING OF (ALL) KINGS
and HE IS LORD OF (ALL) LORDS...yes HE is even
LORD OF/and/ OVER OBAMA.

Do nor fear the ONE who can kill the body, but FEAR THE ONE THAT CAN KILL THE BODY AND CAN CAST YOUR VERY SOUL INTO HELL. HIS NAME IS JESUS OF NAZARETH.

The GOOD NEWS IS: But seek ye first the KINGDOM OF GOD AND "HIS" RIGHTEOUSNESS...AND "ALL" OF THESE THINGS WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU. Matthew 6:33.
If you know HIM HE will be the REAL Prince of Peace. All you have to do is ask HIM into your heart and willingly HE will come. Learn to rely on HIM for EVERYTHING. Satan is the Prince of this world. Oh!!!!He will promise you EVERTHING, but ALL of his promises will lead you to death, not only in body, but in soul as well. And...many are there already. Come out from among them.
