Reject Steele and Crist

The out of control disease that is flat-out endangering our nation and traditional values is created and spread by those in our political system who purposely and continuously place themselves above that which is in the best interest of the American people. On the Republican side, this reckless and self-indulgent behavior is on full display with the actions of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele and Florida Governor Charlie Crist.

Like many in politics and most in Washington, Michael Steele and Charlie Crist are all about themselves. With his just released -- and secret from the party -- ego-centric book combined with his comment that those who dare to question his authority need to, “…shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way,” Steele has hopefully finally exposed himself to the GOP elite as someone who needs to be forced out or marginalized.

If those two things are not enough to galvanize Republican leadership into action against Steele, then maybe they should take into account his talent for shamelessly pandering to any audience. Last May, when on the D.L. Hughley show on CNN with Hip Hop artist Chuck D, Steele tried to be embarrassingly “inner-city” at times while at other times, doing everything he could to ingratiate himself with the host and Hip Hop singer. Even if it meant referring to Rush Limbaugh and his material as “incendiary” and “ugly.”

The other day on the Christian Broadcasting Network, Steele officially scrapped the bottom of the pandering barrel by declaring that God wanted him to be chairman of the RNC. Said Steele, “A lot of people think that this is about me. It is not about me…God, I really believe, has placed me here for a reason, because who else and why else would you do this unless there’s something inside of you that says right now you need to be here to do this?"

Why? Well, maybe you would do it for the huge salary. Or the chance to use the chairmanship to elicit book contracts with large advances and high fees for speaking engagements. Or utilize the constant media exposure to best position yourself for your next political or business venture. I’m just saying.

With regard to Crist, any fair reading of his recent profile in the far-left New York Times magazine (or other outlets) shows that while he might be a “nice guy,” he is as superficial and detached as they come and willing to flip or flop at a moment’s notice.. As the National Review said, “One of the most liberal politicians in the Republican firmament.” Beyond that, Crist is literally an Obama hugger.

Why does Crist want to bolt the Governor’s mansion after only one term? Why does he not want to run for reelection? Could it be because when he took office, unemployment in Florida stood at 3.3 percent and that when he physically hugged President Obama and his “stimulus” package, it was at 9.6 percent and that now, it is at 11 percent? Has Crist just done some basic math, figured out the people of Florida are about to fire him, and so in the best interest of the Crist franchise, decided to run for the seat vacated by Mel Martinez now being kept warm by one of his sycophants?

This is not about what’s best for the Republicans or the Democrats. It’s about the viability and security of our nation. It’s about the rule of law. It’s about right and wrong. It’s about traditional values and what happens to us all when the last of those values is eradicated.

Is the complexion of our nation changing? Absolutely. Does that mean we need to water down our principles to accommodate that change? Absolutely not. I reject this ignorant and self-defeating premise.

As one who is married to a Hispanic-American and spent a great deal of my childhood in poor inner-city neighborhoods, I know first hand that the vast majority of immigrants and African-Americans have strong conservative beliefs. They believe in God, believe in the rule of law, believe in personal responsibility and believe in the promise of our nation.

To attract this growing base of voters, conservatives need only to reach out to them while being true to themselves. The task will be far from easy as the far-left media will continue to demonize traditional values and those who espouse them. Fine. A large part of our message to minority and immigrant America must be that these are “your values. These are the same values you teach your children every single day. It is your values being mocked by the media, liberals, and Hollywood.”

Our nation and those traditional values are under constant and growing attack. What are you going to do about it? What can you do it about it?

Make a stand. There are two immediate ways to send a powerful message to the elite. First, refuse to donate to the RNC as long as Steele is chairman. If you want to support the Republican or conservative cause, give your money to the Republican Governors Association run by Haley Barbour or give directly to an individual true conservative candidate. If you reside in Florida, and want to place a principled conservative in the cesspool that is the United States Senate, vote for Marco Rubio over Charlie Crist.

The clock truly is ticking. Small steps are needed now. Steps that will turn into a conservative rumble if actually taken.
