Bipartisanship: For the Common Good?

Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

Many say that now that Barack Obama has been elected, we should all work together for the common good. That sounds wonderful until you realize that we don't all agree on what is the common good.

Notice I don't take the position that Republicans should refuse to cooperate with Mr. Obama because Democrats have been indescribably partisan, cruel and unfair to President Bush for the past eight years. Those are certainly grounds to call them hypocrites, but we must always put the best interests of the nation above petty partisanship -- obviously.

So we must ask: Would it be in the best interest of the nation for Republicans to work with Barack Obama?

The only sensible answer is: It depends on what policies Obama pursues. As much as people want to believe that getting along is the highest good, there are many more important things.

If Democrats were being honest, they would agree with that statement. Otherwise, they owe us an explanation as to why they opposed President Bush at every turn. Could it be they think their ideas on Iraq, the war on terror, education, stem cell research, judges, the environment, immigration and the rest are more important to them than simply getting along? I thought so.

And while certain conservative "intellectuals" have anesthetized or deluded themselves with feel-good platitudes, I daresay that camaraderie in furtherance of policies that could permanently erode our liberties is hardly for the common good.

Yet with Obama's rash of Clinton-era appointments, these conservative elites are already feeling vindicated in their stated hope that Obama is not a leftist who would govern in accordance with his decidedly liberal record.

But as I anticipate the Obama presidency, I'm -- surprise, surprise -- far less sanguine. To the extent that Obama charts a course toward preserving our liberties and prosperity, I'll be more than happy to support him. To the extent that he does not, I have a duty to oppose him, for which I do not apologize.

Based on his campaign and everything I've been able to glean from his available records, I believe Obama would:

--Shut down Guantanamo Bay and otherwise make life much easier for our terrorist enemies and others who want to destroy the United States and Israel.

--Fill any Supreme Court and lower court vacancies with liberal activist judges whose decisions would further imperil our constitutional integrity.

--Promote a culture that, notwithstanding the embarrassing denials of such previously stalwart life proponents as Doug Kmiec, would be hostile to the lives of the innocent unborn.

--Initiate a stimulus package that would equal or exceed the $700 billion government "bailout" package, the sheer magnitude of which is still sending shock waves into America's free-market soul. This, despite the liberals' castigation of President Bush for eight years for fiscal irresponsibility.

--Further open the floodgates to illegal immigration, with the purpose of expanding another Democratic constituency and with utter disregard for the rule of law and whether immigrants assimilate into the unique American culture or learn the English language and American civics. Continued...

We Must "Stay The Course"
I was talking to a woman who immigrated from Russia to the U.S. six years ago. Another woman immigrated from Turkey and another woman immigrated from Iran. In fact, one woman was from communist China and told me she had to sleep on the ground for two years in a camp.
Another woman was from Cuba. My friends are definitely multi-cultural from all cultures and countries. As a second generation American whose grandparents immigrated from Europe, I looked around the table over dinner and listened to their various accents and I said, "Good grief, I feel like a foreigner in my own country," and laughed. They asked me who I voted for and I told them McCain and basically, each of them said, "We've heard all those words before. We don't like Obama. He's a socialist. He's saying everything that the socialists said in our country and that's why we came here. We are shocked that the American people don't bother to investigate or listen to what he's saying." They said they were very worried now because they wanted to live in a free country. I was concerned prior to our dinner, but now I know that what I listened to Obama say before election was that he wants to change America from a democracy to a socialist nation in my opinion and if anyone should know, it's people who came here and said they've already heard this same speech in their country many time and left their families to get away.

HOW???
Can some liberal explain to me HOW taking money away from employers creates jobs?

Why does the man who promises to forcibly take more money from employers and "the wealthy" give you hope?

---Is it that you will hope you don't get downsized from your employer who now can't afford you?
---Is it that you, as a hotel worker, hope you don't get downsized because those evil rich people, now having less money, aren't traveling?
---Is it that you, as a landscaper, have to now find another profession because the evil wealthy people are now cutting back on their large landscape jobs?

WHY do you feel so entitled to money you haven't earned?
WHY is YOUR greed not bad in your eyes?
WHY do you want a big mommy government to take care of you as if you are a helpless little kid?
WHY is it moral for some citizens to have to spend their precious time earning money to give to you who haven't earned it?
WHY aren't liberals giving in droves to Obama's 1/2 brother in Africa who lives on $12/year?
