In a less than candid interview, President Obama was asked what he would say to Americans, especially those in the African American community, who are still living in poverty and disillusioned with his administration. Remarkably, he explained that voters for the most part support him because “they understand what an incredible mess had been made as I was coming into office and we’ve been spending the last three years cleaning it up.” In other words, voter disenchantment, if it does indeed exist, stems not from his own failed economic policies or conspicuous absence of leadership, but from the supposed incompetence of his predecessor.
