Dear States: You Have No Rights

ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton warned states today not to follow Arizona in its lead to do something about illegal immigration. Morton said the immigration issue is strictly for the federal government to deal with. He forgot to mention that the federal government is failing to deal with illegal immigration effectively while states take on the issue alone.

"I don't think that 50 different immigration enforcement laws is the answer to our immigration troubles," U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton said in an interview. "I understand the frustration that many communities feel over the question of illegal immigration, but having a patchwork of state laws, I don't think is the right way to go."

"Immigration — the entry of people in and out of the country — is clearly a federal responsibility," Morton said.

Yes, but illegal immigrants also enter the country through states within the country, and according to the Constitution, states have sovereignty.
