Ladies and gentlemen, the Vice President of the United States:
Vice President Joe Biden joined House Democrats in lashing tea party Republicans Monday, accusing them of having “acted like terrorists” in the fight over raising the nation’s debt limit. Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.
“We have negotiated with terrorists,” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.” Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists,” according to several sources in the room.
This reprehensible slander has metasticized with astounding speed. Over the span of the last 96 hours, it has spread from the
Kos/
Van Jones fever swamps, to
a pair of
Politico columns, to the lips of rank-and-file Congressional Democrats, to the man who is one heartbeat away from the presidency. Biden's participation in this disgrace is especially abhorrent, considering the office he holds. Sure, we could play the "what if Palin/Cheney had said it?" game, but that would trivialize the offense. There's no sugarcoating what happened today: The Vice President of the United States referred to dozens of duly elected members of Congress -- and by extension, the millions of Americans who support them -- as "terrorists."
Think about that. All Americans of good will should demand that he apologize, including the man who selected him as a running mate.
UPDATE - Katie
tweets that Bob Beckel was repeatedly bellowing about "Tea Terrorists" on Fox earlier this evening. It's official, then: Likening conservatives to violent, murderous extremists is now a
sanctioned Democrat Party talking point. Let's remember this heinous display the next time the Left's civility police come knocking, as they
always do.
UPDATE II - Time for an unconvincing Vice Presidential
denial:
Vice President Joe Biden tells CBS News that published reports that he compared Tea Party-linked lawmakers to "terrorists" during a closed-door meeting Monday are "absolutely not true." "I did not use the terrorism word," Biden told CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Scott Pelley.
Remember folks, the initial report cited multiple sources in a room full of Democrats who confirmed Biden's quote. Someone here is lying, and I have my suspicions.
