Biden Caves: Former VP Pens Letter to Senate Asking for Records Related to Tara Reade's Allegations

After directly addressing Tara Reade’s allegations of sexual misconduct against him this morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, former Vice President Joe Biden penned a letter to the Secretary of the Senate requesting that documents related to his 36 year tenure in the upper chamber be released. Biden has received criticism for keeping documents under lock and key at the University of Delaware, but it appears that Biden and his advisors believe that any record relating to Reade’s claim would be under jurisdiction of the Senate, after mistakenly claiming that the National Archives would be home to the documents:

“We had understood that the Senate stores records from this office, and from this period, in the National Archives. The Archives now states that the records would have remained under the control of the Senate... I request that you take or direct whatever action necessary to establish the location of the records of this Office, and once they have been located, to direct a search for the alleged complaint and to make public the results of this search…”

This request from the former vice president represents a 180-degree spin from the same candidates’ rhetoric surrounding these allegations during Friday morning’s appearance on MSNBC. Biden claimed complete innocence of Reade’s claims, and insisted that his hidden Senate records contain no relevant information:

The contents of whatever records may be released remains to be seen, but if Reade’s claims are false, as Biden says they are, there is no reason to keep 36 years worth of documentation hidden from the public.
