White House: Trump Isn't Firing Dr. Fauci, Okay?

Earlier today President Trump retweeted a message on Twitter that included the hashtag #FireFauci, sparking even more speculation Dr. Anthony Fauci's days on the White House Wuhan coronavirus task force are limited.

But the administration is firing back at the charge and reiterating President Trump has no plans to get rid of the doctor.

"This media chatter is ridiculous -- President Trump is not firing Dr. Fauci. The President's tweet clearly exposed media attempts to maliciously push a falsehood about his China decision in an attempt to rewrite history," Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley released in a statement. "It was Democrats and the media who ignored Coronavirus choosing to focus on impeachment instead, and when they finally did comment on the virus it was to attack President Trump for taking the bold decisive action to save American lives by cutting off travel from China and from Europe. Dr. Fauci has been and remains a trusted advisor to President Trump."

President Trump will hold a Wuhan coronavirus task force meeting at the White House Monday evening, starting at 5 p.m. et. There's no doubt reporters will ask about the issue.

In the meantime, some strong supporters of the President are advocating Dr. Fauci step aside to allow economic experts to take over.
