The Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. has many hot spots, but one is particularly large: New York City. The Big Apple is responsible for over half of the 59,000+ cases of the virus in the country that has already killed over 800 people. Like President Trump, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo have given updates. Now, I know now is not the time to point fingers, but Democrats can’t help themselves and neither can their allies in the media. They filibustered an economic relief bill they ci-wrote, dragged their feet, and tanked the markets for a couple of days for very minor changes. It’s pathetic. They just don’t want to make it look like Trump is winning, even though he’s ahead by like five touchdowns. The polling shows Trump’s handling of this crisis is met with 60 percent approval among Independent voters and nearly a quarter of Democrats. Game over, losers.
Big mystery there how NYC was hit so hard. pic.twitter.com/9YOrvaeevI

Irrational fears about coronavirus and prejudice are hurting our Asian small businesses. To be clear: there are currently no cases of the virus in NYC.

Today our city is celebrating the #LunarNewYear parade in Chinatown, a beautiful cultural tradition with a rich history in our city. I want to remind everyone to enjoy the parade and not change any plans due to misinformation spreading about #coronavirus. https://t.co/bwCnIb7j8H

How much of a risk is the new coronavirus to New York City?

Today I’m enjoying a wonderful lunch in Chinatown. I’ve been disheartened by reports of bias and discrimination against the Asian community recently. Let me be clear – our public health response is about a virus, not a group of people. pic.twitter.com/E5lDPR4tKz

Despite this development, New Yorkers remain at low risk for contracting #COVID19. As we confront this emerging outbreak, we need to separate facts from fear, and guard against stigma and panic.

Standing with Chinese community leaders and my colleagues today because we will not tolerate rising xenophobia and anti-Asian/anti-Chinese sentiment we've seen related to Coronavirus.

No it’s not because of Diversity, Governor Cuomo. It’s because this city is run by woke morons. https://t.co/yoQzD4Jx4a

But there is another thing China and the Big Apple share regarding this outbreak. It’s that they allowed Chinese New Year celebrations to continue—and it seems as if local city council members were more concerned about being politically correct. Stephen Miller (‘Redsteeze’) captured multiple tweets from Mayor Bill de Blasio and NEW York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot and encouraged people to go out. Folks, it was on March 11 that Mayor Comrade said that it was fine for healthy people to go out (via NY Eater):
People should still be going out to eat at restaurants, Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a press conference about the new coronavirus on Wednesday — emphasizing that the virus “does not transmit through food and drink.”
A week into the first confirmed COVID-19 cases in New York City, restaurateurs across the city say they’re already seeing reservation cancellations, while four huge dim sum restaurants in Sunset Park have closed in response to dropping sales as more people limit public outings.
In response to a question about how the city would help curb the economic impact, the mayor mentioned new no-interest loans for small businesses that experience a 25 percent decline or more due to new coronavirus. He also said that they’re “telling people to not avoid restaurants, not avoid normal things that people do.”
“If you’re not sick, you should be going about your life,” the mayor said.
That declaration was on March 11. Well, 30,000+ cases later and New York has shut down. And this is prior to Billy pointing fingers at Trump (via NY Post):
Facing intense criticism of his indecisiveness during the ever-widening coronavirus crisis, Mayor Bill de Blasio pointed the finger Friday at the feds, at one point telling President Trump to “get the hell out of the way.”
De Blasio told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the White House must step up and provide the city with a huge shipment of medical supplies by April, including millions of surgical masks and thousands of respirators. He also wants the military to assist the Big Apple.
“He’s not acting like a commander-in-chief because he doesn’t know how,” de Blasio said of the president. “He should get the hell out of the way.”
That’s rich. Of course, this isn’t entirely the fault of the New York liberal establishment, but if you want to know why the outbreak is worse, well—look at the leadership. They folks seemed more concerned about pushing back against the Trump White House calling the virus what it is: the Wuhan virus.
It came from China. The Chinese strong-armed good doctors from doing the right thing and warning the public. Chinese government officials dragged their feet in warning the public about human-to-human transmission and they ordered scientists who discovered evidence of the disease to destroy their samples in December. The Wuhan Chinese New Year celebrations only exposed legions of folks to the disease and by the time quarantine was instituted—five million had left the city. Too late. This is China’s fault. Period. That’s where the lion share of the blame should be placed, but it’s no shocker that a communist was totally wrong and doesn’t know how to handle a crisis. So he does what most communists have done when they’re incompetent at their jobs: blame someone else. The only exception is that no one will be black bagged by the secret police over it.
