Rand Paul Calls for Tax Filing Deadline to be Moved

Republican Senator Rand Paul is calling for the April 15, 2020 tax deadline to be delayed as a way to help Americans economically during the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak.

The idea is also gaining steam in the House. Democrat Congressman Josh Gottheimer is onboard with the idea and sent a letter to the IRS Commissioner last week with the official request. Republican Lee Zeldin has voiced support as well.

Given we're less than one month away from the normal filing date, it is expected the IRS will make an announcement to delay the deadline sometime this week. Until when is still unknown.

In the meantime, President Trump has repeatedly called on Congress to pass an emergency payroll tax cut, which most Democrats - led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi - have rejected.
