A Gallup poll released Tuesday morning gives congressional Republicans good news. In addition to the overwhelming approval of President Trump’s economic policies, those surveyed favor the performance of Republicans on Capitol Hill over their Democratic colleagues. Approval of congressional Republicans has risen six points since October, at 40 percent, while the approval of Democrats in Congress plummeted to 35 percent. These numbers represent Gallup’s first survey since the impeachment and acquittal of President Trump. Most notably, the approval of the GOP minority in Congress climbed 13 points since October, while the approval of Democrats in Congress from Democratic voters remains at 65 percent.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also saw a bump in his approval, which clocks in at 33 percent, while his unfavorable rating remains at 48 percent; among GOP voters and right-leaning Independent voters, Leader McConnell’s favorability is 62 percent. Leader McConnell’s counterpart in the House of Representatives, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has a high favorability from Democratic voters at 71 percent. Her favorability overall is 39 percent, and her unfavorability rating climbed to 55 percent. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) favorability remains at 31 percent, with 58 percent approval from Democrats. His unfavorability rating climbed to 46 percent.
As Gallup points out, Republicans have visibly benefited from impeachment; it is clear that Americans do not approve of the way Democratic leadership handled the impeachment of President Trump.
