President Trump declared a national emergency today concerning the border wall. Of course, liberals are going nuts over it and they’re going to try and block it. It’s not unprecedented. We’ve had multiple national emergencies called by different presidents. Everyone needs to relax. Yet, CNN’s Jim Acosta had to get his two cents in, asking the president what does he say to critics who say he’s creating a crisis to invoke a national emergency. Trump took Acosta to school, saying maybe he should ask the Angel Moms if he’s making things up. Angel parents are those who have lost their children to illegal alien criminality. They were seated in the front row at Trump’s press conference in the Rose Garden.
There's nothing lawless about the president using an emergency declaration to make available already appropriated funding for military construction of a border fence. The fence, emergency declaration, and appropriations transfer authority all derive from existing laws.

Congress gave the president authority to declare emergencies via the National Emergencies Act of 1976. Congress authorized the construction of a border fence via the Secure Fence Act of 2006. And it appropriated funding for military construction projects via Public Law 115-244.

There are fair *political* arguments to make against the president using a declaration of emergency to fund border fence construction, but the *legal/constitutional* arguments against it are baseless. POTUS has the authority to do this because Congress repeatedly gave it to him.

There is no new legal or constitutional precedent, given that Bush and Obama used emergency declarations to unilaterally transfer appropriated funds for other purposes at least 18 times during their presidencies. https://t.co/4xX2qdgmAE

The media has often ignored the plight of Americans victimized by illegal alien crimes. Democrats especially cannot devote too much time to these people since it hurts their narrative of open borders and gives the Trump White House more ammunition to push its border security agenda. Acosta was obviously unfazed by these mothers because he later referred to their murdered children as those allegedly killed by illegal aliens (via Free Beacon):
Acosta reported from the White House on Friday before President Donald Trump's speech and subsequent press conference about his decision to declare a national emergency at the southern border, in order to secure funding for his long-promised wall.
Mothers of children killed by illegal immigrants brandished pictures of their children at Trump's announcement, reportedly drawing derision from one reporter in attendance.
"We saw people leaving the White House there with photos. Do we know who they are?" anchor Jim Sciutto asked.
"Jim, we believe those are some of the Angel Moms that the president has talked so much about out on the campaign trail, at rallies and so on," Acosta said. "These are parents of victims who were allegedly killed by undocumented immigrants. The president likes to point to these folks who have been through some terrible experiences as evidence a wall is needed down at the border."
"I suspect, Jim, if we're seeing some of the Angel Moms coming in, the president is going to be trying to drum up some emotional energy on this occasion here, to try to sell this wall," he added. "We have seen him do it before."
Later, Sciutto referred to the Angel Moms as "mothers who lost children, or alleged to have lost children to undocumented immigrants in this country."
And CNN wonders why Trump and others flog them on a daily basis. What a joke.
Jim Acosta asks POTUS if he is manufacturing a crisis at the border.

POTUS defers to Angel Moms, who hold up pictures of their children toward Acosta and say, “is this manufactured?” and “this is real.”
ACOSTA: "I believe in facts... What do you say to your critics who say you are creating a national emergency?"
