Melania Trump Settles Libel Suit With Daily Mail

First Lady Melania Trump has settled a pair of libel suits against The Daily Mail after the newspaper alleged that she had been an escort in the 1990s. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but she had sued the publication for $150 million in damages.

The Daily Mail issued an apology to Melania and said that the allegations were not true.

“We accept that these allegations about Mrs. Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them,” a lawyer for the British newspaper told a judge, Andrew Nicol, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. “We apologize to Mrs. Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs. Trump’s two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs.”

An official apology will also be published in the two editions of the newspaper.
