BREAKING: Shooting At San Bernardino Elementary School; UPDATE: Shooter Identified, One Child Has Also Died

We have disturbing reports coming out of California, where multiple people have been reported shot near an elementary school in San Bernardino, according to KTLA. The nearby California State University San Bernardino campus has been placed on lockdown. One of the victims is reportedly a child. The good news is that the local ABC News outlet—ABC7—is saying that the shooter is down, and that the situation is contained.

UPDATE: Police Chief Jarrod Burguan says this appears to be a murder-suicide. Two students have been rushed to the hospital. Fox News is reporting at least four have been injured, and that two people are dead, one of which is the shooter. Following protocol, police are going room-to-room in securing the school. Students are being transported to nearby Cajon High School California State University San Bernardino [UPDATE below] for their safety.

UPDATE II: Education Secretary Betsy DeVos offered her condolences, while San Bernardino police updated their information about the students at North Park Elementary. Those students have been taken to California State University San Bernardino, while police instructed parents to go to Cajon High School to await pickup. They told them to have their IDs ready and be patient as processing could take up to three hours prior to release. They also said that the shooter came to the school to visit a female teacher, but could not elaborate further concerning questions about a possible relationship. Two students are in critical condition.

UPDATE III: CNN is reporting that one student—an eight-year-old boy—has died. His name was Jonathan Martinez. We also know the relationship of the shooter and his victim. They were husband and wife. They were identified as Cedric Anderson, 53, and Karen Elaine Smith, 43. Anderson killed her when he opened fire in a special needs classroom where Smith was located. This is a murder-suicide. Headline has been changed to reflect the final conclusion of this tragic event.

Jonathan Martinez, 8, one of two students hit by gunfire, has died after a shooting at North Park Elementary School in San Bernadino, California, San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan said.

The shooter was identified as Cedric Anderson, 53 of Riverside, Burguan said. Anderson later took his life, police said.

Anderson entered a special needs classroom and opened fire, killing his wife, Karen Elaine Smith, also 53, Burguan said.
