Senate Poised to Confirm Gorsuch Friday

The Senate is expected to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch Friday morning, putting an end to the partisan warfare over President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee in which Democrats mounted an unprecedented filibuster against the Colorado judge, forcing Republicans to use the nuclear option to reach cloture on the nomination with a simple majority.

Debate on the nominee will continue in the Senate Friday morning and a vote is expected around midday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

After the vote, Gorsuch will be sworn in at the White House and the court next week. He will then sit for the next round of oral arguments that are set to begin April 17, which includes a case on the separation of church and state in Trinity Lutheran Church v. Pauley.

Stay tuned for coverage of Gorsuch’s confirmation.
