The IRS: Harassing Some, Overpaying Others

It's all about the priorities, isn't it.

While the IRS was busy harassing law-abiding taxpayers -- whose only "crime" was seeking to set up nonprofit groups that might be hostile to the administration -- it was overlooking other matters: In particular, the fact that it was paying out billions in bogus claims for the Earned Income Tax Credit. That's $13.6 billion, in fact, just last year.

When an agency is busy preying on the people it is supposed to be serving, I guess it's no surprise that it ends up paying people it shouldn't be.
