Now that the late-term abortion ban in Texas has been passed, the United States Senate is getting ready for the battle over life to reach a national level. We learned two weeks ago that Republican Senator Marco Rubio is planning to introduce legislation banning abortions after 20-weeks, something 64 percent of Americans support. Similar legislation has already passed in the House. Now, Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid says he's willing to open a vote up on the five month abortion ban.
Although this news from Reid is a step in the right direction, the legislation is likely to go nowhere. The Democratic controlled Senate still includes people like Barbara Boxer, who supports not only late-term abortion but partial birth abortion. Not to mention President Obama, a supporter of infanticide, would surely veto the legislation if it ever landed on his desk.Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he's "happy to take a look" at a ban on abortions after 20 weeks that was recently passed by the House.
Reid, who has called himself "pro-life," said Sunday that he was open to allowing a Senate vote on the measure, though he added that it should not be the chamber's primary focus.
