34 More “Thoughts and Prayers”

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

While the Islamic State claims responsibility for triple bombings in Brussels this morning that have left at least 34 dead and scores injured, our political class hands out generic “thoughts and prayers” for the victims.

Neither thoughts nor prayers, muttered after-the-fact, are sufficient to defend America. By allowing unsecured borders, encouraging mass migration and aggressive “refugee” resettlement and by severely limiting law enforcement actions against illegals, our leaders are failing to protect us. They have abandoned their primary role of defending our people and, instead, are rolling out the welcome mat to people whose stated goal is world domination.

A screenwriter could concoct no better example than our lame-duck president. As the body count was still being tallied, the ostensible leader of the free world was cuddling with the leader of a long-standing state-sponsor of terrorism, Raul Castro.

Speaking from Cuba, Obama said, “We must be together regardless of nationality or race or faith in fighting against the scourge of terrorism.” He denied plain reality, ignoring the fact that, today, the great majority of the world’s terrorism is being committed under the banner of one faith: Islam.

Obviously not all—or even most—Muslims have terrorism in mind. But, as more Muslim immigrants and refugees resettle in the U.S., and increasingly fail to assimilate, these communities can provide safe havens for terrorists to hide in plain sight.

In recent years as both Muslim immigration and terrorism have increased exponentially, law enforcement scrutiny of Muslim immigrants has been abandoned; and those who question the lax policies are vilified “Islamophobic.” Furthermore, law enforcement whistleblowers with the guts to expose this fact are being harassed, threatened and fired.

As the government’s howls and accusations of “Islamophobia” get ever louder, the terror threat expands.

Since 2014 there have already been 80 ISIS-related arrests in the U.S. and 28 convictions. The FBI has over 900 ongoing ISIS investigations throughout all 50 states. Since 2001, we have lost track of 9,500 terror suspects who were granted entry to the U.S. before their terror ties were discovered. Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart (USMC), Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, warns that ISIS "will probably attempt… direct attacks on the U.S. homeland in 2016." Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper, currently Director of National Intelligence, described ISIS fighters entering America through the refugee program as a “huge concern.”

In November of last year, Sen. Ted Cruz proposed the Terrorist Refugee Infiltration Prevention Act. Has the bill gone anywhere? Where are the vigilant Republican Members of Congress lining up to become co-sponsors—those so quick to condemn barbaric acts of terror?

Various bills limiting refugee resettlement have been proposed but none will pass before Obama leaves office and may not pass after that. Even worse, successive Republican-controlled Congresses have consistently fully-funded Obama’s open borders agenda. Beatrice Delvaux, chief editor for the Belgian newspaper, Le Soir, wrote of Belgium’s citizens, “They know all this is true. They know too that they knew: this was going to happen, this was bound to happen…”

The kinds of attacks visited upon Belgium today are coming here to America. We will see a similar attack or attacks, almost certainly, within the year. Belgium is just the latest canary in the coalmine. We’re next. President Obama, his defenders in the media—and those in Congress who consistently refuse to resist his agenda—will have still more blood on their hands.
