RIDGECREST, N.C. (BP) -- A LifeWay board of trustees task force has been appointed to study the new NIV Bible in light of a resolution passed at the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in June.

Montia Setzler, chairman of the LifeWay board of trustees and senior pastor at Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church in Riverside, Calif., appointed the task force during the LifeWay trustees meeting Sept. 12-13 at LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina.

At issue is a resolution passed by convention messengers that calls the New International Version (NIV) 2011 Bible an "inaccurate translation" the SBC cannot recommend. The resolution criticized the NIV 2011 for its "gender neutral methods of translation." It also said messengers "respectfully request that LifeWay" not sell the translation.
