A new poll shows that Democrat career-politician Roy Cooper is slipping in the race for the North Carolina Senate seat.

The newest information from High Point University shows that Cooper is losing ground to Republican Michael Whatley, as Cooper is now polling at just 50 percent, just a 5-point lead over Whatley. Earlier polls had shown Cooper with a lead as large as 15 points. Republican officials say that the drop in support will only continue as voters learn more about Cooper’s abysmal record.

"This race will only continue to tighten as Michael Whatley meets North Carolinians where they're at and Cooper's vulnerabilities are exposed,” said NRSC Regional Press Secretary Nick Puglia. “The common knowledge surrounding Cooper's perceived strength is simply wrong.”

With the scandalous exit of Democrat Graham Platner in Maine and the rise of Democratic Socialist Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan, the Democrat Party’s chance of regaining the Senate has narrowed and is now heavily dependent on a win in North Carolina.

Republicans are heading into the midterms with a massive cash-advantage over their Democrat counterparts. A debt-saddled DNC is facing down an RNC armed with $130 million cash on hand, and President Donald Trump has announced that he will begin spending heavily from his personal PAC to support Republicans in key races across the country.

Cooper and Whatley will face off in the midterm elections in November, which are now just 73 days away.
