In an interview with Salem radio host Charlie Kirk on "The Charlie Kirk Show," Fox News's Tucker Carlson opened up about the things he's gotten wrong in his political analyses over the last several years.
While the interview started with discussions about religious topics, the conversation inevitably turned to politics. Carlson admitted he doesn't understand "what's going on in the world right now" though "clearly…a realignment" is taking place, emphasizing the drastic changes between 2020 and 2022.
"I don't really understand it, and I was reminded of that in the midterms, which I miscalled completely," he acknowledged. "I failed in my duty as a talk show host," he added, noting that part of his job is to "make a good faith effort to get it right."
"This time I was up on TV being like, 'Meet Lee Zeldin, your new governor,' it's like what? And I don't want to make it all about me because it has nothing to do with me, it was the nation voting…"
While he said there are certainly several contributing factors to the end results of the midterm elections, to him, it still doesn't all add up to paint a clear picture of what went wrong.
"The only thing I've concluded is I'm not good at predicting the outcomes of things. I should stand back and appreciate the majesty of the unexplained, unknowable mysteries of life," he said.
Carlson confessed his judgment was clouded by the "neoliberal" and "antihuman movement that's sweeping the West."
"I really feel hatred. That loathing clouded my judgment," he continued. "I was like, 'I dislike these people so much. What they're doing is so wrong. It is helping so few people and hurting so many. It's so immoral on every level that I just want it to be repudiated.'… I do want it to stop, and a rejection by the voters may be the beginning of slowing them down…
"I wanted that so much, not because I like the Republicans — I really dislike them more than I ever have — but I dislike the other side more," he added.
The host of "Tucker Carlson Tonight," which averaged 3.3 million viewers in 2022, then admitted he has "no freaking idea what goes on in American politics."
