Apparently HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius thinks Americans are just plain stupid. I can think of no other reason why her government agency would now be demanding food manufacturers to place nutrition facts on the FRONT of items... because apparently we were all too lazy or too stupid to TURN THEM OVER.

Other than being offended at the insinuation that I'm lazy and/or too stupid, I'd be willing to bet that Secretary Sebelius has no idea that this seemingly tiny little request will wind up costing America's food manufacturers millions of dollars:
“If it is done, we would prefer to have it be voluntary as opposed to being mandatory, and we want to make sure that it’s consistent,” [Snack Food Association (SFA) President James] McCarthy told CNSNews.com.And what's the point of doing all this, other than to give Sebelius something to do now that Obamacare is law? Well, the administration is just looking out for your health, of course:
“There are huge cost implications, for changing your packaging is very costly,” he said. “Many of our companies are smaller, medium-sized companies that would find it very burdensome to have to change all of their packaging.”
First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to combat childhood obesity is promoting the FDA plan to require package-front labeling, Sebelius said.
“So all of that effort is underway promoted either by the -- some of it involves the first lady's initiative some of it is part of the Accountable Care Act, some of it is funded in our 2010 and 2011 budgets -- but I think that there is no question that this administration has focused on health and public health prevention and wellness in a way that really hasn’t been highlighted,” said Sebelius.

Do they honestly think putting nutrition facts on the front of packaging will change peoples' eating habits?
The government has placed labels on packages of cigarettes that say if you smoke these, you will die. Have people stopped smoking?
