Huck4America just emailed me a statement about the nascent Romney vs. Huckabee "Veep" controversy.  Here's an excerpt:

Attacks by the Mitt Romney supporters are unwarranted and unnecessary. Making comments such as "[Mike Huckabee's] blatant actions forced America to re-think it's bias against the LDS people, and the country found out that it was neither fair, nor warranted" and "the Evangelical Taliban are those evangelicals who think they are the only people worthy to decide who can or cannot be considered Christian" or "He only attracts a small group of evangelicals who cannot stomach a Mormon in the White House, and who base their vote on religion" are highly offensive and sound as if they came from the Radical Left. Comparing Americans who classify themselves as Evangelicals to a murderous regime is a tactic of desperate individuals and should immediately draw a retraction from Governor Mitt Romney and members of his staff. There is absolutely no place in the political discourse for this kind of hate speech by supporters of Mitt Romney. We ask that Governor Romney repudiate these kind of statements.

The entire statement is after the jump ...[# More #]

"Part of the political process is both working for and advocating your candidate for public office. The Republican Primary process played itself out and it was clear that Governor Mike Huckabee received substantial support from area's of the country that are key to a Republican should he/she be successful in November. Huck4America is an independent organization made up of those believed in Mike Huckabee and feel strongly that he should be the choice for Vice President. In no way, shape, or form has Huck4America mentioned any other candidate but simply made the point that it is important for Sen. McCain to understand the need for the VP to be someone who has been consistent in his beliefs, unwavering in a time when being steadfast is one of the most important qualities of a President or Vice President.

To conclude, the discussion moving forward should be about the ideas and not hate speech. When we use such language, we stoop to the level of Democrats - and I think we all agree that is a bad thing. Huck4America is an independent organization designed to give supporters of Governor Huckabee a positive outlet to voice their support and advocacy for the position of Vice President."
