Suspicious Timing in McCain Story

As you've probably seen, The Drudge Report is pushing a story about John McCain:

McCain has personally pleaded with NY TIMES editor Bill Keller not to publish the high-impact report involving key telecom legislation before the Senate Commerce Committee, newsroom insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

With McCain surging in New Hampshire (Reuters reports he's up 15 points since November), the timing of this seems a bit suspicious to me. Is this South Carolina all over again?
