At first I thought, "wait, there are ballerinas at Camp Lejeune?" The answer is, "sure there are." They're the daughters of Marines, and many of their daddies are deployed.
As part of their spring recital, the girls want to perform-- seriously, it's hard to type this without tearing up, it's so darn cute-- "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree With Anyone Else But Me" while singing and dancing with life-sized cut-outs of their deployed fathers. The cut-outs are $99 each, and the girls, ages 3-8, will get to take them home with them.
The Camp LeJeune Ballerinas got help from milbloggers in November when they were trying to buy costumes for their December recital. They got so much support then, they were able to get a bunch more than costumes, like-- seriously, waving off tears, here--little green-and-pink camo dance bags. Good gracious Lord of kittens and puppies and bunnies, that is cute.
Now, you can help them raise money for the spring recital, and it's easy. All you have to do is vote for A Soldier's Perspective in this here contest.
Now, I have many other beloved milbloggers on that list, all with good causes, but CJ at A Soldier's Perspective is promising that he'll donate the $3,000 prize to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas, and the cute offensive won me over.
Seriously, they're gonna dance to "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" with cut-outs of their deployed daddies. I haven't the words.
